Day to day as a Surveyor
As a Surveyor at Marous Brothers Construction, you will dive into a dynamic daily routine that involves collecting all available data, written and electronic, for specific projects to prepare for construction. You will operate a robotic total station, computer and related survey software, data collector, and have an understanding of GPS for construction purposes. Your day will also include:
- Project Set-Up (Office Related Duties): Determine time estimates for a project, prepare construction site locations for site layout using a set of construction documents, CAD drawings, and related software. Prepare calculations for project requirements, as-built drawings at the completion of the project, and search land titles, legal, and survey records to obtain information about property boundaries within areas to be surveyed. Maintain equipment and repair records of all survey-related equipment
- Field Set-Up: Establish horizontal and vertical site control, determine layout of site improvements, including utilities, grading, curb, pavement, building locations, etc. Analyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare, or direct the preparation of, survey proposals. Determine volumes of stockpile material, adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy, and collect as-built data
- GPS: Set control for GPS calibration, prepare GPS model of the site, verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations. Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features. Understand and operate rover software for field construction staking
- Miscellaneous: Assist with additional projects, duties, and tasks as assigned
