Summary:
Performs complex technical work supervising and participating in the work of emergency communications personnel, under the general supervision of the 911 Director, which falls under the Office of the Sheriff.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:
Serves as second in command within the division; assists in coordinating day-to-day operations of 911 center, including its personnel, equipment, and scheduling.
Manages day-to-day minor personnel issues, consisting of coaching sessions, investigations, performance evaluations, and other written documentation.
Analyzes and disseminates daily requests for statistical data for all Public Safety agencies.
Oversee departmental training, quality assurance program, and maintain comprehensive training and certification records.
Performs the duties of a Telecommunicator as needed and responds to the 911 center during major incidents to assist with high call volume situations, and assists in the EOC as assigned

Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED and 6 or more years experience working with telecommunications and supervising, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the methods of operating the communications system
Comprehensive knowledge of radio and teletype procedures
Thorough knowledge of the geography of the County and the location of important buildings and landmarks
Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed
Ability to speak distinctly
Ability to operate a variety of communications equipment
Ability to solve problems within the scope of responsibility
Ability to deal courteously with the public under stressful conditions
Ability to plan and supervise the work of dispatchers
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, outside agencies and the general public.

Work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic)
License & Certifications:
Must possess or obtain and maintain the following certifications:
Telecommunicator I Certification through NC Sheriffs Standards
Communications Supervisor Certification though APCO
Communications Training Officer Certification though APCO
Division of Criminal Information Certification though NCSBI
CPR Certification
Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification through IAED
Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification through IAED
Terminal Agency Coordinator Certification through NCSBI
Valid drivers license with insurable driving record
Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire, with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor, Sheriff, or designee for approval.
