Community Programs Manager

Program Locations: Cleveland & Cleveland Heights, Ohio

Job Type: Primarily in-person work with occasional remote work opportunities on select days.

Schedule: Standard school year, MWF 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, TTH 12:00 PM–8:00 PM, with occasional weekend hours.

*Hours may vary based on program and organizational needs, particularly during summer months.

Position Summary

The Community Programs Manager leads the planning, implementation, and daily operations of CAL’s year-round ArtWorks program, a youth arts workforce development initiative serving teen apprentices. Working in close collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Development staff, this role ensures program excellence through a holistic approach that integrates youth development, high-quality arts instruction, workforce readiness, and community partnerships. The Community Programs Manager serves as a central connector between leadership, teaching artists, apprentices, and community partners, aligning vision with execution to ensure program goals, funding requirements, and participant outcomes are met. This position supervises onsite programming, supports teaching artists, manages administrative systems, and contributes to evaluation, reporting, and long-term program sustainability.

Core Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Operations

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the ArtWorks program, ensuring safe, engaging, and well-coordinated onsite programming.
  • Collaborate closely with the COO to align program implementation with organizational goals, curriculum standards, and youth development best practices.
  • Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for teaching artists, apprentices, and community partners.
  • Monitor adherence to ArtWorks policies, procedures, and safety requirements across all program sites.

Teaching Artist & Apprentice Support

  • Collaborate with the COO to recruit, interview, onboard, schedule, and support teaching artists and teen apprentices with a focus on access, equity, and quality.
  • Support teaching artist supervision, feedback, and evaluation to ensure strong instruction aligned with college and career readiness goals.
  • Advocate for and advance ArtWorks’ vision as a workforce development and youth leadership program.

Collaboration, Events & Community Engagement

  • Coordinate program events including orientations, open houses, and culminating showcases.
  • Work with the CEO and Development team to support partnerships, community engagement, and funding-related activities.
  • Represent and advocate for ArtWorks in the community, cultivating collaborations that enhance program quality, visibility, and impact.

Administration, Data & Reporting

  • Manage participant registration, enrollment tracking, contracts, schedules, and program documentation.
  • Track program expenses and support budget management in collaboration with the COO.
  • Collect, track, and report youth outcomes (academic progress, postsecondary pathways, employment opportunities) in partnership with schools and community organizations.
  • Support program evaluation, grant reporting, and data collection required by funders and partners.

Organizational Contribution

  • Communicate key program updates to apprentices, families, teaching artists, partners, and CAL staff.
  • Assist with marketing and outreach materials related to ArtWorks.
  • Support additional CAL programs, initiatives, and organization-wide activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2–3 years of experience in arts education, youth development, program coordination, or a related field
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Experience working with teens or young adults in educational or community-based settings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database or registration systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with arts-based youth workforce development programs
  • Training or experience in trauma-aware, youth-centered, culturally responsive, or restorative practices
  • Background in community partnership-building and advocacy for youth and families
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, social-emotional learning (SEL), and postsecondary pathways
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)

Compliance & Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of Ohio BCI/FBI background checks
  • Compliance with CAL child safety policies
  • Reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed per CAL policy)
  • Ability to lift up to approximately 25 lbs., with reasonable accommodation available
