Accountant
Job Title: Bond Accountant
Location: Columbus, OH
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $27.00/hour
Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Bond Accountant coordinates, monitors, and performs a variety of financial management and control activities. This position supports fiscal operations and programs including Single Family Mortgage Revenue Bonds, Development Loans, Housing Trust Fund, Grants, Mortgage Tax Credit Program, and Federal Housing Assistance Programs.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Management
- Perform daily accounting operations for funds, including receipts, disbursements, and journal entries.
- Classify fund and General Ledger (G/L) activity and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and bond covenants.
- Calculate accruals for accounts receivable and payable; ensure accurate and timely payments and receipts.
- Determine short-term cash needs and excess cash for investment; execute investment transactions through custodial banks and the Treasurer’s Office.
- Calculate interest accruals, maintain fixed asset sub-ledgers, and post depreciation.
- Prepare cash, accrual, and adjusting journal entries; reconcile general, subsidiary, and control ledgers.
Reconciliation and Reporting
- Reconcile cash and investment accounts with monthly statements from trustees, banks, and the Treasurer’s Office.
- Resolve discrepancies in cash transactions and variances in general ledger accounts.
- Reconcile Development Loan balances and reservations with external reports.
- Prepare trial balances, program reports, and statements for internal management, auditors, trustees, and governmental entities.
- Maintain and analyze detailed program reporting schedules for loans, grants, and investments.
Program Support and Analysis
- Assist in loan administration and foreclosure claim processing by researching exceptions, reconciling balances, and entering claims.
- Support finance management with research and data collection for cost analysis of existing and new programs.
- Collaborate with IT, Administrative, and Legal departments to improve workflow and system efficiency.
- Assist higher-level accountants with complex reconciliations and financial reviews for training and development purposes.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in government, housing finance, or bond program environments.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting.
- Experience with general ledger systems and financial reporting software.
- Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Certifications: CPA, CGFM, or other relevant accounting certifications.

- Work Environment: On-site in Columbus, OH (Hybrid flexibility possible after training and assessment).
- Screening Requirements: 9-panel drug screening required.
