Job Description

Oracle's West Coast Hardware Development organization is seeking an experienced Senior Hardware Sustaining Engineer to join our collaborative teams in Santa Clara, California. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in supporting Oracle's cutting-edge Cloud, AI, and database platforms by expertly diagnosing, resolving, and preventing hardware issues in our large-scale production and deployed systems.

As part of a focused and agile team within Oracle, you'll work alongside other technical experts in Validation, Power, Electrical, Signal Integrity, Mechanical, Diagnostics, BIOS, and OS. You'll leverage their expertise to drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions, ensuring the highest standards of system reliability and customer satisfaction. Additionally, your expertise will be vital in qualifying new and alternative components, thereby supporting supply chain agility and maintaining seamless product continuity amid our rapidly growing cloud hardware environment.

Our organization oversees the full lifecycle from architecture and design to development, testing, and maintenance of Oracle servers built on the latest high-end, server-grade merchant silicon. These robust systems serve as the building blocks for some of Oracle's market-leading and growing Cloud Artificial Intelligence Systems & Appliances.

Responsibilities

  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of hardware issues across manufacturing and large-scale cloud environments.

  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to address field and production hardware failures.

  • Manage component lifecycle, including qualification, change management, and end-of-life planning.

  • Validate new and second-source component qualifications to support resilient supply chains.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, support teams and component vendors on debugging activities for failure debugging.

  • Analyze failure trends, generate detailed technical reports, and present findings to cross-functional teams and management.

  • Support design enhancements and provide feedback to improve hardware reliability and serviceability.

  • Assist in maintaining and upgrading specialized lab equipment and high-end development platforms.

  • Document best practices and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.

Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in hardware sustaining, validation, or development.

  • Experience with cloud server hardware, CPU/GPU computer architecture and common computer protocols such as PCIe, I2C, SPI, UART, JTAG, and NVME

  • Proven track record in root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and field failure reduction

  • Expert knowledge of measurement techniques and use of lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal analyzers.

  • Experience with component/second source qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of Linux tools and common scripting languages

  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $97,500 to $199,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.

Paid sick leave: 72 hours of paid sick leave upon date of hire. Refreshes each calendar year. Unused balance will carry over each year up to a maximum cap of 112 hours.
