Intermodal Dispatcher
Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced (preferred) Intermodal Dispatcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating the movement of freight, managing drivers and equipment locations, and ensuring efficient communication between customers, drivers, and internal teams. You will play a vital role in maintaining strong relationships with clients, managing service schedules, and ensuring timely delivery while adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor the locations of drivers and equipment, coordinating service schedules as needed.
- Relay work orders and information to drivers based on customer requests and specifications.
- Address customer questions, problems, or requests for service or equipment.
- Prepare daily work and run schedules to ensure timely execution of tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of customer requests, work performed, charges, expenses, inventory, and dispatch-related data.
- Track drivers' movements and update boards effectively to ensure optimal scheduling.
- Advise drivers on traffic issues, such as construction zones, accidents, weather conditions, and other hazards.
- Ensure the timely and efficient movement of freight, in line with customer orders and schedules.
- Follow company policies and procedures to ensure work is completed according to service standards.
- Maximize profitability on all shipments and minimize operational costs, including maintenance, repair expenses, per diem, demurrage, and claims issues.
- Foster strong relationships with customers, company drivers, owner operators, and service providers.
- Resolve shipment problems by contacting vendors, claims adjustment departments, or service depots for repairs.
- Advise clients on transportation and payment methods, ensuring clarity and satisfaction.
- Provide exceptional customer service, communicate opportunities and challenges, and ensure customer needs are met.
- Coordinate with other departments and customers to provide safe and efficient, world-class service.
- Maintain strong relationships with rail carriers to ensure excellent service delivery.
- Allocate sufficient time for administrative tasks and data entry.
- Perform other duties as required or requested by management.
Requirements:
- High school diploma (or GED) with a minimum of three to five years of experience in rail drayage dispatching or a related transportation field.
- An associate degree or higher in business, logistics, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills, with strong telephone etiquette.
- Ability to multitask effectively (e.g., answering phones and emails simultaneously) while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with DOT Federal HOS regulations, drug and alcohol testing procedures, motor carrier profiles, safety regulations, and documentation requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
