Description/Notes: Primary Purpose:
The Special Education Coordinator oversees the implementation of Special Education programs. They serve as a liaison between the administration, teachers, and parents to ensure every student receives a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree (required); Master’s Degree in Special Education or School Administration
preferred
Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with Special Education endorsement or a valid Educational
Diagnostician certificate
Knowledge of federal and special program rules and regulations
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to analyze and interpret data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in eSPED, SuccessEd or Frontline (formerly (ESPED)Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching in special education or related roles. Minimum of 3 years ARD facilitation experience preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Compliance & Legal Oversight
ARD Committee Leadership: Facilitate Middle and High School ARD meetings and ensure all documentation (IEPs, transition plans, graduation plans, and behavioral intervention plans) meets federal and TEA standards.
Legal Adherence: Ensure the district/campus remains in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and the Texas Education Code.
Record Management: Audit and maintain "Eligibility Folders" and computerized records for state reporting (PEIMS).
State Compliance: Oversee the data collection and submission of SPP 7, SPP 13 and SPP14 data and develop a summary of the RDA reports to the campuses.
2. Instructional Leadership
Staff Training/Support:
Design and deliver professional development for general and special education teachers on specially designed instruction (SDI) and accommodations.
Hold monthly PLC meetings with our Low Incidence Disability teachers.
Meet bi-monthly with Special Education campus lead teachers.
Testing Coordinator: Oversee the administration of the STAAR Alt 2 and work with the district testing coordinator to ensure all accommodations are accurate and appropriate.
Curriculum Modification: Assist teachers in modifying curriculum and implementing evidence-based instructional strategies.
Programs: Support teachers on all district programs including both online and face to face programs.
Transition and Employment Designee-Serve as the districts Transition and Employment Designee and ensure all transition requirements are being completed as required by state and federal laws.
3. Communication & Liaison
Parent Advocacy: Act as the primary point of contact for parents regarding the special education process, resolving conflicts, and explaining procedural safeguards.
Agency Collaboration: Coordinate with outside agencies (e.g., Texas Workforce Commission, mental health providers) for student transition and related services.
Family Engagement: Work with the Director of Federal Programs to develop effective and meaningful family engagement meetings throughout the school year. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel
