Full-time Administrative: Dean for Health Professions

Founded in 1967, Lakeland Community College now serves more than 6,500 students annually (AY 2024-25) and provides a continuum of education, from offering college credit courses for high school students to preparing students for the workforce upon completion of certificates, associate degrees or transfer to a four-year institution. Additionally, the College is home to the Holden Partnership Programs where partner, four-year institutions offer bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs. An extraordinary transformation to both the College’s physical campus and its culture of student success is ongoing while simultaneously planning for 2027’s celebration of 60-years serving Lake County and the surrounding region.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and serving as a member of the Provost's Council, the Dean for Health Professions provides administrative leadership for the programs, faculty, and staff assigned to the college's Health Professions division which currently houses the following academic degrees and certificates: Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, EMT Basic/Paramedic, Health Information Management Technology, Medical Assisting, Multiskilled Health/Phlebotomy, Physical Education, Radiology Technology, Respiratory Therapy, CNA, Surgical Technology and Perioperative Education. 

The Dean oversees the development of new academic programs and provides administrative support for an on-campus dental clinic and continuing education programs for health care professionals.

The Dean must be a forward-looking, visionary leader with talent and qualities to advance a highly productive division. The individual must have demonstrated experience and willingness to engage with external constituents to form collaborative partnerships for the benefits of the students, the college, and the community. Finally, the Dean must be well-versed in change management and able and willing to carry forward the college leadership’s vision and priorities rather than the preservation of status quo in a rapidly changing higher education landscape.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Division Leadership and Planning

The Academic Dean leads division-wide initiatives and strategic planning efforts by:

  • Evaluating the health and viability of current programs as related to community needs and metrics established by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
  • Demonstrating a high level of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, and institutional commitment.
  • Ensuring continuity of the college’s mission through new course offerings, certificates, innovative programs, and applied bachelor’s degrees.
  • Encouraging student learning, inspiring quality teaching, and mastery by students of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Representing the division in the college’s planning processes, including making decision that are informed by data.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

Budget, Data, and Strategic Planning

The Academic Dean manages financial and physical resources by:

  • Participating in the development, management, and monitoring of Division and Departmental Budgets.
  • Using enrollment, completion, licensure, labor market, and student success data to guide evidence-based academic and staffing decisions.
  • Collaborating with institutional research and academic leadership to forecast program demand and workforce needs.
  • Preparing administrative reports and document as required.

Academic Oversight

The Academic Dean ensures academic quality and compliance through:

  • Verifying faculty administrative duties are completed promptly and accurately
  • Overseeing course and program learning outcomes and assessments.
  • Collaborating with other division leaders to offer comprehensive credit and non-credit programs and offerings.
  • Reviewing syllabi for adherence to Ohio Department of Higher Education requirements, providing guidance on supplemental materials and textbooks, providing ideas for implementing various teaching and learning frameworks to enhance student success.
  • Maintaining academic rigor while establishing stretch targets for increases in persistence, retention and completion.

Personnel Management

The Academic Dean directs faculty and staff development through:

  • Establishing and sustaining productive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff, working with the appropriate parties to mediate grievances which are associated with this division.
  • Coordinating hiring activities for all faculty with Human Resources.
  • Collaborating with program chairs/program director’s employee evaluations for all divisional faculty.
  • Maintaining appropriate faculty workloads throughout the division.

Institutional Effectiveness

The Academic Dean contributes to college-wide improvement efforts through:

  • Engaging in institutional effectiveness processes and college-wide and state-wide initiatives (e.g., HLC accreditation, Programmatic accreditation, Program Review, Grants, and Ohio Association of Community Colleges initiatives).
  • Establishing an approach within the Division to help improve the key performance indicators of persistence, retention and completion.

Workforce, Industry and Community Engagement

The Academic Dean supports Workforce and Local Industry by:

  • Collaborating with healthcare systems, business and industry partners, advisory committees, and community organizations to ensure programs align with current and emerging workforce needs.
  • Supporting the development of work-based of work-based learning, clinical placements, and employer-driven instructional opportunities.
  • Analyzing local, regional, state and national healthcare and workforce trends to inform program development, revision, and long-range planning.
  • Representing the Division and College to external agencies, professional organizations, and community partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training and Experience (Required and Preferred)

  • Master's degree in one of the allied health disciplines is required, a doctorate is preferred.
  • Three years of full-time teaching experience in one of the allied health disciplines is required, while additional teaching experience as an adjunct is desirable. Teaching experience gained at a community college is preferred.
  • Two years of administrative experience in higher education is required, with a preference for experience gained at a community college and/or experience with programmatic accreditation.
  • Candidates should possess an awareness of trends in higher education, including effective use of AI, active learning, alternative delivery formats, assessment, globalization of curriculum, OER, performance-based funding, etc.

  • Knowledge of leadership principles and techniques
  • Management skills including planning, organizing and budgeting
  • Skills in supervision; including the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Abilities to interpret and apply applicable federal and state legislation and College policies and procedures

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a 12-month, full-time position assigned to pay grade 8 of the administrative salary schedule with an anticipated hiring range of $89,066 - $118,012 depending on qualifications and experience, and includes full college benefits (See Total Compensation for Administrative Staff ). The college reimburses for relocation from outside the greater Cleveland area to a maximum of 10 percent of the starting annual salary. This postion is not eligible for remote work.
