Comfortable knowledge base and ability to assess emergency situations It is the position of A.C.C.S. that the registered professional school nurse is the leader in the school community to oversee school health policies and programs. The school nurse serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the registered school nurse provides health care to students and staff, performs health screenings and coordinates referrals to the medical home or private healthcare provider. The school nurse serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment. Essential Functions: A. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of a total school health program. Participate in the formulation of policies, standards, and objectives of the school health program. Serve as a consultant to administrators, parents, children and teachers in regard to the health needs of children. Inform the administrators and other school personnel with health problems and resources in the school, home, and community. Participate in the coordination of the school program with the total health program of the school and community. Assist in the planning and conducting of in-service health education for school personnel. Participate in curriculum planning and evaluation when requested. Participate in faculty and parents' meetings when requested. Be responsible for the supervision and maintenance of student health records. Serve as a member of the school multifactored evaluation team when requested by the case manager. Coordinate and assist in screening and testing activities, referrals and follow-up, i.e., hearing, vision, etc... Identify students with health problems and notify school administration and parents/guardians. Provide first aid/emergency services to students and staff. Assist with in-service training of health aides as requested. ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Fast-paced environment Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds Possible exposure to blood and other bodily fluids Job may require time periods of prolonged standing or sitting Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move or lift students or objects.Occasionally requires bending, stooping and reaching May be working in noisy and /or crowded environment Will need to complete work through many interruptions
