Short Description
If you are an ENGINEERING professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an opening for you! Based in our SIDNEY, OH location, you will develop new technologies for our scroll compressor products for the Residential Air Conditioning business. This role is for someone with a passion for ideating and maturing new technologies, utilizing creativity and problem solving skills, along with cross functional teamwork, project management, internal communication skills. You will support the ideation, maturation, and development of scroll compression technologies focused on best-in-world efficiency and optimized for a new generation of environmentally friendly refrigerants.
As an Advanced Technology Project Engineer you will:

Execute technology development projects of one or more subsystems of the mechanical modulated scroll compressor, including but not limited to: scroll compression components, motor and protector, shaft/journal bearing/thrust bearing system, pressure vessel, refrigerant and oil management, valving and shutdown device.

Provide thought leadership, critical thinking, an inquisitive approach, and a high degree of problem solving skills as technology learning matures.

Utilize agile development methodologies to rapidly develop new technologies, in close coordination with manufacturing engineering and supply chain professionals that deliver the best overall solutions for the business.

Design working models in 3D design software (NX) that enable visualization and development of the ideas.

Develop free body diagrams, related equations, and develop proficiency of physics based analytical tools to evaluate concepts prior to testing.

Collaborate with internal customer facing , application engineering, marketing, and quality teams in customer communications, commitments, and issue resolution.

Closely work with global engineering teams and technical experts to understand design challenges and ensure we meet product requirements

Analyze and quantify the value versus the applied cost of compression technologies in end-use applications.

Conceive and implement development and testing plans with an approach towards risk mitigation, while coordinating with appropriate resources to drive results.

Apply and support the incorporation of Lean principles and techniques into the Technology Development process.
Basic Requirements:
-
Bachelor Degree in Engineering with 2 years of engineering experience, co-op experience acceptable (mechanical engineering preferred).

Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
-
Must be able to communicate effectively with multiple functional groups.

Must be self motivated and be able to define and follow a schedule.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience in scroll compressor design and analysis (or similar high speed rotational equipment).

Basic understanding of the refrigeration cycle, thermodynamics, and HVAC systems.

Ability to apply key engineering principles to daily work.

Experienced in design of experiments methodology, particularly with Minitab analysis.

Knowledge and experience with root cause problem solving methodology.

Willingness to work closely with peers in remote, global engineering centers.
