Staff Accountant

ModernControls is a leading provider of HVAC and building automation services for commercial facilities across Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey. With over 220 employees, 4 locations, and a fleet of over 140 service vehicles, our team of experts install, maintain, and design Building Automation and HVAC systems designed to help building owners and facility managers control building environments and operating costs.
The Staff Accountant role is utility player in the Accounting and Finance department. Roles and responsibilities will shift with the needs of the department. Initially, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Senior Accountant – Cash with Accounts Receivable and Collections, the Project Accountant with billing, and the Accounts Payable team with invoice entry and statement reconciliation. As the Staff Accountant becomes more proficient, more tasks with increasing responsibility will be assigned.
Requirements
Objectives of this role:
- Support Sr. Accountant – Cash in the management of Accounts Receivable and Collections follow up
- Support Project Accountant in creating, sending, scanning, and filing invoices
- Support Accounts Payables in Invoice Entry, PO Creation, and Vendor Statement Reconciliation
Primary Responsibilities:
- Respond to Customers in a timely manner on requests for documentation or invoice corrections
- Make follow up collection calls as directed by Sr. Accountant – Cash
- Track and coordinate re-issue of stale checks as directed by Sr. Accountant – Cash
- Enter customer invoices into payment portals
- E-mail/Mail invoices to Project related customers
- Follow up with customers on depleted Purchase Orders
- Support the field by opening Purchase Orders
- Follow up with Purchase Order owners to ensure timely PO Closeout
- During peak periods, assist Accounts Payable with invoice entry
- Reconcile Monthly Vendor Statements against previously entered invoices
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of accounting and corporate finance principles and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational understanding, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and client information.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
- Desire to continue professional growth through job development and training.
- Ability to shift between tasks as needed in the business
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
- One to Three years of Professional Accounting experience in a Corporate Setting, required.
- Experience in Construction accounting, preferred. Viewpoint Spectrum experience a plus.
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
