Job Summary
The Gettysburg Grocery Department Associate position is important in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the grocery store and is responsible for the quality of the food, the safety of the kitchen, and for preparing fresh deli items like sandwiches, salads, and hot foods. The Department Associate must have the ability to lift stock, stand and place product. Department Associate’s job duties include the following:
- Provide excellent customer service, make product recommendations, and answer questions.
- Prepare food for customers, including slicing deli meats and cheeses, making meals, and pricing and packaging items.
- Learn about new deli items and menu options quickly.
- Unload deliveries and make sure the display cases are organized and fully stocked with fresh food.
- Stock frozen and refrigerated products, ensuring proper placement, labeling, and organization. Rotate products and check for damaged or expired items.
- Independently manage the stocking of shelves, rotating products, and ensuring proper inventory levels. Take initiative to identify and address product shortages or out-of-stock items without prompting
- Use portion scales, handheld printers, and point-of-sale systems to price items and complete transactions.
- Proactively keep aisles, shelves, and displays neat and orderly, ensuring a smooth shopping experience for customers. Use problem-solving skills to resolve disorganization or clutter quickly
- Address customer issues or complaints politely and professionally, and escalate complex concerns to a supervisor or manager if needed
- Maintain a friendly, patient, and positive demeanor, even during busy periods, to create a pleasant shopping experience for all customers
- Operate all deli equipment according to safety guidelines.
- Become ServSafe certified and complete any other requested certifications
- Clean and sanitize deli equipment and food surfaces, including meat and cheese slicers, display cases, and utensils.
- Follow written and verbal instructions from managers.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local food safety and sanitation guidelines and company policies.
- Load, unload, and move heavy, bulky products
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards (including backroom and shelves), and dispose of trash Demonstrate efficient time management skills without the need for constant supervision
- Demonstrate sound judgment by independently prioritizing tasks during busy periods and making quick decisions to ensure the store’s operations remain smooth and efficient.
- Help and assist customers in finding merchandise and providing them with information
- Bag groceries and helps customers carry them to their vehicle when needed
- Follow safety policies and procedures, and encourage colleagues to do the same
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must be able to do simple mathematical calculations, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure,
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions,
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull heavy loads of 75 pounds in a physical environment
- Must be able to work 100% of the time moving about in the work area
- Ability to perform work tasks while bending, stopping, climbing, reaching, and standing for long periods of time
- Previous experience in receiving, handling, and stocking in retail or warehouse/distribution environments preferred
- Represent Homefull in a professional manner at work, at all events, and on all social media outlets.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
