We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer - Project Engineer to join our team. This role involves building collaborative partnerships, evaluating customer specifications, and providing budget and timeline estimations for designing and manufacturing systems. You will lead a team of design engineers, manage projects, and mentor team members while utilizing advanced design tools like CREO and CREO Simulate.
Responsibilities
+ Build collaborative partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders.
+ Evaluate customer specifications and develop solutions to technical problems.
+ Provide budget and timeline estimations for design and manufacturing.
+ Lead a team of 2-5 Design Engineers on multiple projects concurrently.
+ Utilize both on-site and offshore staff to manage workloads.
+ Mentor and coach team members to enhance their engineering skills.
+ Design mechanical aspects of powertrain and component test systems using CREO.
+ Analyze designs using CREO Simulate to optimize durability and cost.
+ Conduct or oversee formal design reviews.
+ Initiate problem resolution and cost reduction activities.
+ Create and check detailed prints for production.
+ Obtain quotes, select suppliers, and submit orders for components and systems.
+ Manage projects with suppliers to meet quality, velocity, and cost targets.
+ Support the assembly and build process of test systems.
+ Perform risk and safety assessments including DFMEA and safety walks.
+ Create and update standards and processes for the team.
+ Travel occasionally (10%) to customer sites, suppliers, and manufacturing facilities.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
+ 10+ years of relevant design experience.
+ 3+ years of supervisory or project leadership experience.
+ High level of proficiency with CREO/CREO Simulate.
+ Strong technical and analytical skills.
+ Strong communication skills.
+ Experience collaborating with global engineering service providers.
+ Experience working with suppliers to obtain quotes and procure products.
+ Pro-active, flexible, and creative.
+ Self-starter with good multitasking skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Hands-on experience with machinery, heavy equipment, manufacturing processes, or welding.
+ Powertrain and/or hydraulics design, analysis, or testing experience.
+ Knowledge of machine product lines.
+ Experience with engineering systems such as TC/IPEM, PRWB, REDI, DEFACTO, BIQ, Design Reuse.
+ Experience with NPI, CPI, APQP, and CPPD processes and tools.
Work Environment
The position involves working in a dynamic environment where collaboration with global teams is key. You will utilize advanced design software and tools to manage projects effectively. Some travel is required to interact with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing facilities. The role demands flexibility, creativity, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Chillicothe, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
