Mill Machinist - 38/hr - Direct Placement - 1st Shift

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a 5-axis CNC mill to produce precision parts according to specifications.
  • Perform approximately one complete machine setup per shift, including tooling, fixturing, and program loading.
  • Perform tool offsets as needed throughout the shift, typically 30 to 50 offsets per day, to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Run production for varying lot sizes, typically ranging from 40 to 80 pieces on average.
  • Manage parts with cycle times ranging from 3 minutes to 8 hours, with an average of about 10 minutes, while maintaining consistent quality and throughput.
  • Work with a range of materials including stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and inconel, adjusting tooling and machining parameters as appropriate.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to understand dimensions, tolerances, and geometric requirements.
  • Apply GD&T principles when interpreting drawings to ensure parts meet all geometric and dimensional requirements.
  • Perform G- and M-code program edits at the machine to optimize performance, correct issues, and improve part quality.
  • Execute program edits using Mazatrol or other machine controls as needed.
  • Perform tool changes and verify correct tooling is installed and properly set.
  • Monitor machine performance and part quality during production and make adjustments as required.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and continuous improvement goals.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience setting up and operating 5-axis CNC mills.
  • At least 3 years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints in a machining environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience performing tool offsets independently on CNC machines.
  • At least 3 years of experience performing G- and M-code program edits directly at the machine.
  • Proficiency with 5-axis milling operations, including setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong ability to interpret blueprints and apply GD&T requirements to machining processes.
  • Hands-on experience performing tool changes and managing tooling for production runs.
  • Ability to work with a variety of materials, including stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and inconel.
  • Familiarity with Mazatrol or similar CNC controls for program editing and operation.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, or inconel in a production machining environment is a plus.
  • Experience with Mazak machines and Mazatrol controls is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Haas and Okuma CNC equipment is beneficial.
  • Understanding of GD&T beyond basic interpretation is helpful for complex parts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make effective adjustments at the machine.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production goals.

The environment emphasizes modern CNC technology, structured workflows, and attention to detail. The shop floor is maintained to high standards of cleanliness and organization to support precision work and safe operations, with appropriate industrial attire and safety gear expected in line with standard machining practices.
