Assistant Clinical Professor in Couple and Family Therapy/Human Development and Family Sciences
Position Overview
The Department of Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University invites candidates to apply for a full-time (12-month) clinical-track assistant professor position in Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) in the Human Development and Family Science Program to complement and extend our accredited CFT PhD and CFT Master’s degree programs.
This position will begin in August of 2026. The CFT programs trains graduate students to employ foundational and evidence-based clinical practices in a variety of contexts, including at the OSU CFT Clinic which serves 200-300 clients per year, in established integrated health care settings (i.e., Nationwide Children’s Hospital, OSU Wexner Medical Center), and community mental health (i.e., Guidestone) settings.
The candidate is expected to teach master’s and doctoral courses in couple and family therapy; supervise master’s and doctoral students; develop graduate level courses; have an interest in conducting and overseeing clinical research at the OSU CFT Clinic; contribute to the ongoing accreditation of the master’s and doctoral programs; and participate in Department, College, and professional service activities.

Education and Experience Requirements
Required
At the time of appointment, candidates are required to have a doctorate in couple and family therapy/marriage and family therapy/medical family therapy, clinical member of AAMFT, and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor/Candidate.
Successful candidates must have a commitment to clinical training and supervision with couples and families. Candidates must have experience teaching and supervising and a commitment to advising/mentorship of master’s students.
Desired
Candidates with experience teaching couple and family therapy courses are preferred; with interest and/or experience supervising practicum and teaching telehealth, ethics, child/adolescent therapy, sex therapy, and
assessment and measurement are preferred but not required. Interest in program administration/leadership is also desirable.

Department Information
The Department of Human Sciences is home to four core academic areas, offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees: Consumer Sciences, Human Development and Family Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Kinesiology.
In addition, the department plays a leadership role in Ohio State’s Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Nutrition (OSUN), and houses the Sport, Fitness and Health Program, an activity-based academic program providing classes to more than
8,000 Ohio State students each year. A strong partnership with OSU Extension enhances opportunities for outreach and engagement in the state of Ohio. Another important university partnership exists with Ohio State’s Discovery Themes, with an emphasis in our department on metabolomics.
The department has a faculty of 53 productive members, with grants from local, state, and federal organizations such as NSF, NIH, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Faculty also have funding from a host of industry- and community-based organizations. In FY 2017, Human Sciences had $3M expenditures from current awards and 14 new awards totaling $5.1M. Ten graduate majors and nine undergraduate majors are housed within the department; students may choose from 36 curricular options. The Program
The Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) master’s program and doctoral specialization is located in the Human Development and Family Science Program. The mission of the program is to train students to be excellent research clinicians for academic and research settings, who have a sustainable program of research in areas that move the fields of CFT and Family Science forward. The CFT doctoral program was recently ranked first in scholarly productivity (for faculty overall publications, and first authored publications) among COAMFE Accredited doctoral programs (DuPree & Bean, 2018). The OSU Couple and Family Therapy Clinic is located on campus and is equipped with state-of-the-art research-grade clinical and supervision observational systems. Faculty have also developed clinical research collaborations with the Wexner Medical Center (family medicine, weight management and bariatric surgery), the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Schoenbaum Family Center.
The Human Development and Family Science program in the Department of Human Sciences was recently ranked one of the top Human Development and Family Science programs in the country. The Human Development and Family Science program offers Ph.D. ( and B.S. ( degrees in Human Development and Family Science.
