Supervisory Social Worker
Summary
The incumbent is assigned as a Social Work Supervisor in the Primary Care - Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program located at the Chillicothe - OH VA Medical Center - reporting to the Outpatient Manager - Mental Health service line. At this level - the incumbent will coordinate and manage the administrative and clinical aspects of the PCMHI and is responsible for managing its day-to-day operations.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship - Be a citizen of the United States
- (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3g this part)
- English Language Proficiency - Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f)
- Education - Candidates must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
- Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited
- Note: A doctoral degree in social work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in social work
- License - You must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level
- May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)
- Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment - the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates
- Experience Requirement: You must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level
- Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment
- Examples of specialized experience at the GS-11 include - but are not limited to: assessing and documenting identified behaviors or symptoms of abuse - neglect - exploitation and/or intimate partner violence
- use of clinical social work skills
- maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality per policies - handbooks or directives
- acting as an advocate with appropriate community service providers and agencies when it serves the best interest of the patient and family members/caregiver
- independently assessing the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members - identifying the patient's strengths - weaknesses - coping skills - and psychosocial acuity
- Licensure Requirement: You must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level - and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
- Demonstrated Knowledge - Skills - and Abilities: In addition to the experience above - you must demonstrate the following Knowledge - Skills and Abilities: Ability to independently organize work - set priorities - and meet multiple deadlines
- Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision - consultation - negotiation with other departments and quality improvement
- Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services
- Ability to provide staff training and development
- Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees - team leaders - and managers

- Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary
- Typically - the employee will sit to perform administrative work
- However - other position duties include physical requirements which include but not limited to - long periods of walking

- crouching - reaching - and lifting of a variety of moderately heavy items - carrying of light items such as papers - books - small parts
- or driving an automobile to outreach to other CBOCs or the main facility primary care teams

Duties
- VA Careers - Social Work: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include - but are not limited to: Provides daily oversight of Primary Care - Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) operations - and allocates administrative and clinical resources in accordance with program needs Functions with front-line decision-making authority for Primary Care - Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) staff Guides the PCMHI Team in carrying out the missions of the VA - Chillicothe VAMC - and the Mental Health Integrated Clinical Community (MH ICC) Maintains - tracks - and analyzes caseload - consult - and program evaluation and outcome data
- and implements performance improvement strategies based on analysis Leads PCMHI Team in developing - implementing - and reviewing strategic program initiatives Develops - maintains and revises program administrative plans (i.e. - accessibility plan - performance improvement plan Responsible for the development and implementation of program-level policies and procedures Coordinates the education of internal and external referral sources about services offered by the program Facilitates program adherence to The Joint Commission standards Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m
