Overview of Position:

Responsible for the coordination and execution of research protocols conducted at Genesis HealthCare System ("Genesis").
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Coordinates with Principal Investigator ("PI") and Genesis administration to help ensure that research and related activities are performed in accordance with federal regulations and Genesis policies and procedures.
2. Cooperates with compliance and monitoring efforts related to research program administration and reports instances of noncompliance to the Director of Corporate Integrity. Coordinates and facilitates monitoring and auditing visits. Notifies appropriate Genesis officials of external audits by FDA and sponsors.
3. Assures IRB approval of all study protocols as applicable.
4. Cooperates with compliance and monitoring efforts related to human research participant protection and reports instances of noncompliance to the Director of Corporate Integrity.
5. Assures compliance with standard protocols in regard to Human Research Participants.
6. Prepares and maintains documents for all FDA or regulatory audits and survey preparedness purposes.
7. Develops and maintains positive rapport with all health care providers involved in research.
8. Collaborates with PI and institution to respond to any audit findings and implement approved recommendations.
9. Takes appropriate steps to avoid conflicts of interest, or the appearance of conflicts of interest, between financial or other personal interests and the goals and policies of Genesis and reports instances of noncompliance to the Director of Corporate Integrity.
10. Identifies costs associated with all aspects of research programs and initiates research study procedures.
11. Assists in preparing budgetary documentation for each study.
12. Assists PI in study feasibility assessments as requested.
13. Responsible for keeping management abreast of all significant developments regarding study protocols, patient enrollment, and operational issues related to conducting research.
14. Obtains signed consent forms from all study subjects.
15. Completes all case report forms as required by accurately transcribing data from source documents.
16. Maintains all protocol and study records including regulatory documents.
17. Works with the PI to manage the day-to-day activities of the study including problem solving, communication and protocol management.
18. Screen potential study participants for eligibility using protocol specific inclusion and exclusion criteria.
19. Oversees monitoring of all study participants for adverse events, abnormal lab values, and relative clinical presentations.
20. Reviews diagnostic data.
21. Protects the rights of patients and educates the patient and family by answering questions, clearly explaining risk/benefits.
22. Promotes the ethical conduct of research by reporting good faith suspicions of misconduct in research as defined within Genesis's Research policies and procedures.
23. Assists Principal Investigator with scientific and compliance reporting requirements in accordance with Federal regulations and Genesis and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.
24. Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure and certification and to stay current with relevant research issues, and trends.
25. Maintains clinical competency in nursing in order to adequately provide patient care and to provide continuum between the study and their regular care.
26. Uses nursing skills to provide basic patient care and performs nursing functions required for adherence to study protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Registered Nurse (R.N.) with at least 5 years direct patient care experience.
2. At least two (2) years' experience in health care research .
3. Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of all regulations governing the conduct of clinical studies.
4. Excellent communication skills required.
5. Basic understanding of the development of pharmaceuticals, biologicals, and medical products.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Works in an office/patient care environment.
2. Travels to various locations. Answers telephone calls, interviews patients, uses personal computer and other business machines extensively, which requires the ability to apply finger dexterity.
3. Regularly lift or move 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
5. May be required to periodically rotate shifts and regular days off. All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts as required.
