Supervisor, State and Local Tax (SALT)

Job Description Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage and deliver profitable state and local tax (SALT) engagements — with an emphasis on sales and use tax consulting, audit controversy, and compliance.
- Provide timely, high-quality advice on audit controversy projects, sales and use tax nexus reviews, transactional planning, taxability studies, voluntary disclosure agreements, refund opportunities, and multi-state tax strategies.
- Lead and coordinate the flow of sales/use tax information with clients to ensure accurate filings and advisory deliverables.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff in sales and use tax topics.
- Review workpapers, tax returns, and tax provisions related to sales and use tax.
- Research and resolve complex multi-state sales/use technical issues.
- Participate in the billing and collection process for SALT engagements.
- Develop specialized multi-state sales and use tax knowledge within industries such as Manufacturing, Retail, Construction, Wholesale and Distribution, and Information Technology.
- Identify opportunities to provide additional sales and use tax services and actively market our SALT expertise to clients.
- 5–6 years of public accounting tax experience, including at least 3-4 years focused on sales and use tax
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA or JD preferred but not required.
- Prior experience working with or at a state Department of Revenue is preferred but not required (audit, compliance, or policy roles).
- Proven ability to identify and address client needs in the sales and use tax space: building and maintaining networks, communicating value propositions, managing resources, budgets, and billing.
- Superior analytical, technical, and communication skills with strong knowledge of sales and use tax accounting/technology.
- Experience supervising staff and leading multi-state sales and use tax projects.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Access, Excel, and other tax software/technology.
- Willingness to travel to client sites and work additional hours as needed.
