SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

ANTICIPATED TEACHER VACANCY 2026-2027

The following position is posted in accordance with the negotiated agreement:

POSITION:1.0 FTE Secondary Special Education Teacher (Probationary Appointment)

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION:

• NYS Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6 and NYS Students with Disabilities Certification 7-12 (or 5-9

extension) or NYS Students with Disabilities K-12

• Certification in Content Area 7-12 (Any content area-Science and Math preferred)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards, resources and classroom management

• Understanding of various disabilities, teaching strategies, and behavioral management techniques.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to create a positive student centered learning environment.

• Utilization of student assessments and data processes to identify programmatic needs, as well as target

support for individual students.

• Collaborate with faculty and grade level teams to design, modify, and implement effective lesson (unit)

plans following an ICT model.

• Knowledge of the principles and methods for instruction at the Secondary level.

• Demonstrate ability to design and implement lessons to meet the learning needs of students with varying

levels of ability.

• Strong knowledge of IEP development and instructional best

• NYS fingerprint clearance and required professional development workshop completion.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• 1.0 FTE Secondary Special Education Teacher

• Delivery of Specially Designed Instruction using a variety of instructional models.

• Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, NYS Part 200 regulations, and IEP development and implementation.

• Understanding of various disabilities, teaching strategies, and behavioral management techniques.

• Required progress monitoring and reporting per regulation requirements

• Ongoing training and workshops to stay updated on best practices and legal requirements in special

education.

SALARY:Compensation as per District/AFA Collective Bargaining Agreement
