Primary Role Summary
The Automotive Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining customer vehicles safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer and company standards. The Technician plays a critical role in delivering quality repairs, identifying additional service opportunities, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience.
The Automotive Technician serves as the technical expert within the shop, providing accurate inspections, quality workmanship, and professional recommendations that support customer safety, vehicle reliability, and company profitability.
Key Responsibilities1. Vehicle Diagnostics & RepairPerform vehicle inspections and diagnostic testing.
Identify mechanical, electrical, drivability, and performance issues.
Diagnose root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Perform repairs according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
Complete maintenance services including brakes, tires, alignments, oil changes, suspension, batteries, and other vehicle systems.
Verify repairs through testing and quality control procedures.
Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections.
Identify maintenance and repair opportunities.
Document inspection findings accurately.
Communicate repair recommendations clearly to Service Advisors.
Support customer safety and preventative maintenance programs.
Assist in maximizing vehicle reliability and customer satisfaction.
Maintain efficient work habits and productivity levels.
Complete assigned work within established labor times.
Manage workflow and prioritize assignments effectively.
Support overall shop throughput and scheduling objectives.
Minimize delays and operational bottlenecks.
Ensure repairs are completed correctly the first time.
Follow shop quality control procedures.
Conduct final inspections and testing prior to vehicle release.
Minimize comeback repairs and warranty work.
Maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism.
Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety requirements.
Utilize tools, lifts, and diagnostic equipment properly.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials.
Report damaged equipment and safety concerns immediately.
Protect customer vehicles and company assets.
Complete repair order notes accurately and thoroughly.
Document diagnostic findings, repairs performed, and recommendations.
Communicate effectively with Service Advisors and management.
Maintain accurate labor and time records.
Participate in production meetings and training activities.
Stay current with automotive technology and repair procedures.
Participate in technical training and certification programs.
Develop advanced diagnostic and repair skills.
Support mentorship and knowledge sharing within the shop.
Promote a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement.

The Automotive Technician has authority to:
Diagnose vehicle concerns and recommend repairs.
Perform repairs and maintenance within company guidelines.
Recommend additional repairs based on inspection findings.
Request technical assistance when necessary.
Stop work on unsafe vehicles, equipment, or conditions.
Pricing decisions, customer negotiations, and repair approvals remain the responsibility of the Service Advisor and Store General Manager.
