Job Summary:

The Fleet Engineer assists with the supervision and management of vessel engineering activities with respect to the physical plant, general maintenance and repair, regulatory agency compliance and operating and budget guidelines. Includes assistance with the management of engineering projects, performance studies, and casualty claims. This position is responsible for support in a 24 hours a day, seven-days-a-week operation and reports to the Fleet Superintendents of Engineering. Must be able to physically survey vessel structure, and access confined spaces. Travel required.

Primary Responsibilities :

• Supervision and management of assigned vessel engineering activities
• Vessel maintenance and repair approval and coordination, spare parts review and approvals, and inventory management
• Engineering budget, cost projections, and financial data
• Vessel survey, dry docking, and casualty claims
• Running season service, including vendor embarkation coordination
• Winter work service/parts acquisition including assistance with winter personnel coordination
• Safe, reliable, and efficient performance of assigned vessels
• Vessel Upgrade Programs
• Evaluation of vessel system and engineering operational performance
• Maintenance of engineering logs, reports, and analytical data
• Maintenance of ABS survey status and regulatory compliance
• Serve as a representative for industry technical, engineering, and operational committees as required

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years in the Maritime industry or equivalent education or experience
• Strong operational knowledge of computer databases and office programs (MS Office, MS Excel, MS Word)
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare reports and proposals
• Strong leadership and diplomacy skills to address industrial hygiene issues with management and colleagues
• English language necessary for oral, written, and phone communications.
• Must have keen observation skills to properly assess and report on potential problems
• Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) holder or ability to obtain
