Materials specialist
Job Summary
Manages and executes the activities associated with operations and/or construction material depots in accordance with all applicable requirements, ensuring safe, reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner. Allocates, processes, and handles material, supplies and merchandise. Facilitates training on material processes to impacted operations front line employees and contractors. Key Results:- Safe/efficient high-quality material depots that comply with policies, practices, and standards
- Properly stocked warehouses, and material availability
- All internal/external customer-responsive material support
- Collaborate across all groups to achieve business goals
- Completed Operations and/or construction projects which meet customer expectations and budget requirements
- Serve as SME and advisor to leadership and departments for all material contract details
- Cultivate positive relationships with external suppliers and / or contractors
- Actively interacts with contract crews’ leaders to ensure contractor performance adheres to established metrics and policies/procedures
- Fosters and promotes valued relationships with suppliers, industry associates, company affiliates, and contractors
- Collaborates with suppliers to maintain proper bin stock levels (min/max) and inventory turns
- Performs quality control (QC) of deliveries to ensure accuracy, follows up with suppliers on discrepancies
- Takes the lead on investigating, resolving, and responding to material issues
- Coordinates with the coordinators, leadership, departments, municipalities, and contractors regarding all work and materials required
- Manages emergency and non-stock material levels
- Places and manages special orders
- Collaborates with field operations/construction services, field operations leaders, and construction managers to ensure internal/external crew efficiencies are achieved
- Works across geographic boundaries whenever necessary
- Supports operations and/or construction leaders, managers, and contractors in coaching and training of a geographically dispersed workforce
- Collaborates with meter shop, local operations and construction on large volume meters and regulators
- Implements best practices while driving functional consistency, process standardization and operational excellence, while promoting safety
- Supports a project management and planning culture
- Promotes the necessary environment for effective internal customer satisfaction and collaboration
- Assures activities and processes are implemented to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of service to customers
- Effective use of technology, tools, and planning techniques to improve process results
- Promotes and assures safe working environment and public safety
- Executes construction services and operations strategies
- Manages pipeline construction/O&M contracts
- Assures effective coordination scheduling and resource planning of operations and/or construction jobs
- Ensures timely and accurate invoice payments to contractor
- Designs and manages strategic operations and/or construction objectives
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with pipeline and/or material contractors
- Demonstrated knowledge of gas operations including gas flow, construction, contracts, and emergency response
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal operating codes
- Strong knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to operations and/or construction.
- Working knowledge of operations support systems, i.e. WMS, etc.
- Excellent safe driving record is required
- Qualified and ability to operate standard Power Industrial Truck
- Must be physically able to negotiate variety of terrain and building structures. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
- May be required to periodically work beyond normal eight (8)-hour day (at applicable overtime rate) to accommodate operations and/or construction schedule and needs
- Potential for quarterly trip to Gary, Indiana for meetings
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a company vehicle. Upon Hire
- Project management experience
- Construction Inspection experience
- Operations Engineer/Engineering Technician experience
- Experience in estimating project costs and creating job orders
- Strong experience working with excel, word, power point, etc.
