JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation and production of food to be served complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. Responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for direct preparation of food served using established production procedures and systems.
- Determine amount and type of food and supplies required using production systems.
- Ensure availability of supplies and food or approved substitutions in adequate time for preparation.
- Set steam table; serve or ensure proper serving of food for tray line and cafeteria.
- Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.
- Apportion food for serving.
- Store food properly and safely, marking date and item.
- Correctly prepare all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders.
- Assure all food and other departmental supplies are ordered and received in a timely manner so that adequate inventory levels are maintained to support volume or anticipated volume.
- Complete food temperatures checks before service.
- Demonstrate ability to multi-task and prioritize work in order to meet current needs within established timeframes
- Able to take advantage of non-productive time to organize, clean, assist others, or otherwise prepare for future workload.
Adherence to Organizational and Departmental Policies
- Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards.
- Observe proper food preparation and handling techniques.
- Attend mandatory hospital education annually.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Attend department staff meetings.
Support and Participate in Common Teamwork
- Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow team members.
- Consistently address conflict in a manner that supports team development.
- Consistently demonstrate willingness to perform cross functional duties to insure optimal utilization of departmental resources.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to meet departmental needs.
- Verbalize a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement measures and actively participate in improvement initiatives.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs tasks that are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job.
- Participates in maintaining departmental functions.
- Demonstrates initiative in personal/ professional development.
- Presents a professional image.
- Assists with control of costs through the judicious use of human and material resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements Include
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in food service positions preferred.
- Person in Charge training preferred and must be obtained within one year of hire.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Able to read, write, and perform basic math calculations.
