Organization Overview
The North Coast Men’s Chorus (NCMC) is a nonprofit LGBTQ+ performing arts organization dedicated to artistic excellence, community building, and social impact through choral music. Serving Northeast Ohio for nearly four decades, NCMC presents multiple concert programs annually, special events, and community engagements that foster visibility, belonging, and cultural enrichment.

The North Coast Men’s Chorus presents high quality musical entertainment for diverse audiences, promotes a positive influence within and beyond the gay community, and provides a supportive environment for its members and participants.
The Executive Director (ED) is the organization’s chief administrative and operational leader , responsible for translating artistic vision into sustainable operations, advancing the mission, and ensuring long-term organizational health. This position requires in-person work in the greater Cleveland area, while day-to-day activities may be performed remotely.
Position Summary
The Executive Director provides strategic, financial, and operational leadership for NCMC in partnership with the Board of Directors and the Artistic Director. While the Artistic Director leads musical and artistic excellence, the Executive Director oversees/leads all non-artistic functions , including administration, finance, fundraising, marketing, development operations, systems, and external relations.
This role requires a collaborative, systems-minded leader who can manage day-to-day operations while also driving long-term growth, stability, and impact. This role requires the ability to attend NCMC evening and weekend performances and events
Core Responsibilities
1. Organizational Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as the chief executive officer for all administrative and operational matters.
- Partner with the Board, AD, and staff to develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s strategic plan.
- Translate board-approved strategy into actionable annual operating plans.
- Provide regular reporting to the Board on performance, risks, opportunities, and progress.
2. Partnership with the Artistic Director
- Maintain a strong, collaborative partnership with the Artistic Director, grounded in mutual respect and clearly defined roles.
- Ensure operational, financial, and marketing support for artistic programming and productions.
- Align and balance administrative planning (budgets, schedules, staffing, venues) with artistic goals.
- Support the Artistic Director in audience development, donor engagement, and community visibility.
3. Financial Management & Oversight
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Business Manager, Artistic Director, Treasurer, and Board.
- Oversee financial controls, cash flow management, and fiscal accountability.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including income statements, balance sheets, forecasts, and event profit and loss statements.
- Oversee audits, tax filings, and compliance with nonprofit regulations.
- Maintain ethical stewardship of all organizational assets including physical assets.
4. Fundraising / Development
- Support the Board in all fundraising initiatives, including:
- Individual giving
- Major gifts / Legacy Giving -work with the Board to cultivate and solicit major donor prospects
- Sponsorships, advertisements, and corporate partnerships
- Grants and foundations
- Special events and campaigns
- Oversee donor stewardship systems and data management.
- Assist with planning and scheduling development/fundraising events.
5. Operations & Administration
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring efficiency and consistency.
- Ensure effective staffing and structure, including interviewing,hiring,overseeing training, and reviewing staff members.
- Work with the Board and staff to maintain policies, procedures, and internal systems.
- Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, insurance, and risk management.
- Ensure effective use of technology, CRM, and administrative tools.
- Ensure the accuracy, usefulness, and impactfulness of the NCMC website.
6. Marketing, Communications & External Relations
- Oversee marketing and communications strategy in alignment with artistic programming and development/fundraising goals.
- Serve as an ambassador for NCMC with community partners, sponsors, donors, and stakeholders.
- Strengthen the organization’s brand, visibility, and public presence in Northeast Ohio and beyond.
- Support audience development, ticket sales strategy, and digital engagement.
7. Board Relations & Governance Support
- Support effective governance by providing timely, accurate information to the Board.
- Assist the Governance Committee with board development, identifying prospective board members, onboarding, training, and succession planning.
- Comply with bylaws, policies, and best practices in nonprofit governance.
- Partner with the Board to strengthen board member giving and engagement in fundraising.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to board leadership.
8. Culture, Inclusion & Community Impact
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and values-driven organizational culture.
- Ensure NCMC’s mission and community commitments are reflected in operations and programming.
- Support initiatives that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and community engagement.
Qualifications
Required:
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a nonprofit organization or relevant experience.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and nonprofit financial reporting.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors. Experience partnering with and supporting a Board of Directors, including navigating diverse viewpoints and building consensus while providing clear leadership.
- Experience with strategic planning process and leading complex projects from vision through implementation.
- Excellent communication, time management, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Experience in supervising and developing staff.
Preferred:
- Experience with performing arts organizations, choruses, orchestras, or LGBTQ+ nonprofits.
- Understanding of LGBTQ+ community needs and cultural competency”)
- Working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order.
- Fundraising, grant-writing, and development leadership experience.
- Familiarity with CRM systems, marketing automation, and digital engagement tools.
- Knowledge of Northeast Ohio arts and nonprofit landscape.
