Position Title: Baker Assistant
Department: Kitchen / Bakery / Dining Services
Reports To: Head Baker / Executive Chef / Dining Manager
Position Summary
The Baker Assistant supports daily bakery operations by assisting in the preparation, baking, and presentation of baked goods such as breads, pastries, desserts, cookies, and specialty items. This role helps ensure products are prepared according to recipes, quality standards, food safety guidelines, and production schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing ingredients for baked goods, including measuring, mixing, weighing, and portioning.
- Support the baking of breads, muffins, cookies, cakes, pies, and other pastries.
- Follow standardized recipes and production schedules accurately.
- Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, frostings, and toppings.
- Help decorate and finish baked items as directed.
- Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure product quality.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
- Wash and sanitize baking tools, pans, mixers, and utensils.
- Rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) methods.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries properly.
- Communicate supply shortages or equipment issues to supervisor.
- Support special events, catering, and holiday baking needs as required.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous bakery, kitchen, or food service experience preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of baking techniques and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and consistency.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
- Ability to lift up to 40–50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in hot kitchen or bakery environments.
- Manual dexterity for mixing, decorating, and handling equipment.
