Job Description
This position supports roadway construction and maintenance projects by safely directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic around active work zones. You will work entirely outdoors, typically Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays, averaging about 50 hours per week. Start times are generally around 7:00 a.m., and shifts run 8–10 hours depending on project needs. After a one-day, in-office orientation in Bedford, you will be dispatched from home each day through a mobile app to job sites primarily within an hour of the Greater Cleveland area.
Responsibilities
- Direct and control traffic using stop/slow paddles, hand signals, and radios to maintain safe and steady movement through work zones.
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades in accordance with company procedures and state standards.
- Monitor road and worksite conditions throughout the shift and adjust traffic control patterns as needed to protect workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with crew members, supervisors, and the public to coordinate safe and efficient operations.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment, and immediately report any hazards, incidents, or equipment issues.
- Remain alert, attentive, and professional for extended periods while standing and working in all weather conditions.
- Travel to and from job sites using your own reliable transportation and be prepared to move between sites if needed to support other crews.
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain current knowledge of traffic control procedures and safety standards.
- Support construction and utility crews by maintaining safe work zones for clients in the Greater Cleveland area.
Essential Skills
- Ability to stand on your feet for the entire shift while working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 30–50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks such as setting up and removing traffic control equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation to commute to job sites and occasionally travel between multiple sites.
- Strong situational awareness to recognize and respond quickly to changing traffic and worksite conditions.
- Clear and confident verbal communication skills to interact with crew members, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional when dealing with the public in potentially stressful situations.
- Willingness to work 8–10 hour days, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays, averaging about 50 hours per week.
- Comfort working 100% outdoors on active construction and utility projects.
- Traffic control or traffic management knowledge, or willingness to learn and follow detailed procedures.
- Traffic Control or Flagging certification, or willingness to obtain one through employer-provided training.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience in flagging, traffic control, or construction is a plus but not required.
- Experience in construction, traffic management, traffic control, or landscaping is beneficial.
- Ability to use a mobile app for daily dispatch and job information.
- Steel toe or composite toe boots that extend above the ankle (must be provided by the employee before going into the field).
- Comfort working within a defined geographic area, generally within an hour of the Greater Cleveland region, including areas no further west than Rocky River, no further east than Mentor, and no further south than Richfield.

Work Environment
This role is 100% outdoors on active construction and utility job sites, primarily within the Greater Cleveland area and generally within about an hour of your home. Workdays typically start around 7:00 a.m. and last 8–10 hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays, averaging approximately 50 hours per week. You will attend a one-day orientation at an office in Bedford, starting at 8:00 a.m. and lasting about six hours, where you will receive safety training and your personal protective equipment. After orientation, you will be dispatched daily from home via a mobile app to various job locations. The work involves standing for long periods, working in all weather conditions, and being in close proximity to moving traffic and active construction equipment. Steel or composite toe boots that extend above the ankle are required as part of the field dress code, and additional PPE is provided. The environment is safety-focused, structured around clear traffic control standards, and requires constant alertness and teamwork.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
