Our Global Engineering team is looking for a Principal Controls Engineer who is ready to lead complex, high-impact projects that shape the way products are manufactured, protected, and delivered worldwide.

In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of advanced control systems for our cutting-edge manufacturing equipment. You will oversee project execution, guide engineers, and ensure that our control systems deliver safety, efficiency, and reliability at a global scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead & Mentor: Provide technical leadership for controls engineering projects, guiding and developing engineers while ensuring alignment with functional and business objectives.
  • Own the Design: Define, design, and approve advanced control systems—including PLC/PC-based systems, HMIs, motor controls, drives, and industrial networks.
  • Deliver Complex Projects: Oversee capital investment projects from concept through startup, ensuring budgets, schedules, and technical requirements are met.
  • Ensure Quality & Standards: Implement and enforce design quality standards, documentation accuracy, and best practices in controls engineering.
  • Drive Innovation: Identify, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies that improve system performance, reduce costs, and advance sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate Globally: Partner with cross-functional and multicultural teams to deliver world-class automation solutions.
  • Be a Trusted Expert: Serve as the go-to authority for electrical controls in converting and extrusion equipment, ensuring robust, safe, and scalable solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • 7+ years of experience in design and project engineering, including team leadership or people management.
  • Proven expertise in PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Rockwell), HMIs, motor control systems, servo drives, and industrial networks (Ethernet IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus).
  • Strong CAD/CAE skills (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Composer, Matlab, FEA/CFD simulation, DriveWorks).
  • Experience leading capital investment projects and driving cross-functional collaboration.
  • Manufacturing, packaging, or extrusion background strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
