The Team
Upstart’s Talent Acquisition team builds inclusive, high performing teams by attracting and hiring top talent that drive Upstart’s success.
As the Engineering Recruiting Manager at Upstart, you will lead a team of 8 full lifecycle recruiters focused on technical hiring. You’ll own the strategy and execution of engineering recruiting initiatives across all technical functions, partnering closely with senior engineering leaders to understand business needs and scale effectively. You’ll be the kind of manager your team aspires to become—an exceptional recruiter yourself who leads from the front, models recruiting excellence, and invests deeply in building top-notch recruiters in return.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of full lifecycle recruiters focused on technical hiring across a range of engineering roles and levels
- Own the strategy, roadmap, and execution of Upstart’s engineering recruiting efforts, ensuring alignment with broader company objectives
- Serve as a hands-on recruiting expert, setting a high bar through direct engagement with key searches and demonstrating best-in-class recruiting practices
- Act as a trusted partner to engineering and product leaders by offering strategic insights, talent market expertise, and regular updates on pipeline health
- Build scalable and effective recruiting processes that enhance candidate experience and drive quality, speed, and efficiency
- Drive adoption and optimization of recruiting tools and systems, including applicant tracking systems and data reporting frameworks
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in talent acquisition or recruiting, including proven success building and managing recruiting teams
- Strong track record as a full lifecycle technical recruiter, with expertise across various engineering disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to align recruiting strategy with business goals and lead teams through ambiguity and change
- Skilled in stakeholder management and confident engaging with senior technical leaders
- Familiarity with applicant tracking systems and other modern talent acquisition tools
- Preferred qualifications:
- Experience supporting a mix of volume hiring and hard-to-fill technical roles
- Strategic mindset with the ability to balance short-term hiring needs with long-term team-building goals
- Deep commitment to recruiter development and performance coaching
- Comfort working in a high-growth, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
- Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote, San Mateo, CA, and Columbus, OH
- Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.
- Travel Requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; the Talent Acquisition team meets quarterly for 2-3 consecutive days at a time.
At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).
