The Senior Customs Technician supports Abbott’s Global Trade Compliance program by executing accurate, timely, and audit‑ready post‑export reviews, document retention and reviews and pay broker invoices. This role plays a critical part in maintaining regulatory compliance, minimizing risk, and ensuring adherence to U.S. Customs laws, company policies, and internal control requirements. The position requires a high degree of diligence, independent judgment, attention to detail, and cross‑functional collaboration.
What You’ll Work On
- Perform post‑export, Sample Machinery Shipment and 48‑hour reviews in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and Abbott Global Trade Compliance (GTC) policies
- Conduct machinery and sample audits, including review of tariff classifications, EEI filings, valuation, country of origin, and supporting documentation
- Validate import and export records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls
- Identify discrepancies, trends, and potential compliance risks; support root‑cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs)
- Support internal and external audits, regulatory disclosures, and responses to CBP or other government agency inquiries
- Partner with internal stakeholders, including logistics, supply chain, brokers, and trade compliance teams, to resolve issues efficiently and accurately
- Review customs broker invoices, validate charges, and process payments in accordance with Abbott financial and compliance procedures
- Maintain clear, complete, and audit‑ready documentation in alignment with Abbott record retention and documentation standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by reducing errors, rework, and process inefficiencies

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, and/or
- Minimum of 2 years of experience performing post export audits, or trade compliance related activities
- Experience supporting customs audits, machinery/sample reviews, or broker management activities preferred
- S trong attention to detail with a commitment to first time accuracy and minimal rework
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and accountability
- Proven problem-solving skills and analytical mindset
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate as a team player across functions
- Diligent, reliable, and results driven with a compliance first mindset
The base pay for this position is $24.65 – $49.25 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
