High School English Teacher - ELA 9th & 10th Grade

We are currently seeking a highly-qualified, charismatic, and inspiring educator to teach High School English Language Arts (Grades 9–10) at our Sagamore Hills Campus.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction and Management
- Teaching Schedule: Lead up to 6 sections of 9/10th grade English Language Arts and one Targeted Intervention section for literacy support. Perform typical teacher duties including lunch, activity, and/or dismissal.
- Specialized Methodology: Utilize specialized Lawrence School instructional methodology, adapting English literature and writing assignments for students with learning differences after appropriate training.
- Remediation: Prepare thoroughly to present content systematically, remediating student skill/knowledge deficits in reading comprehension, writing mechanics, and literary analysis.
- Structured Environment: Maintain a highly structured, systematic, predictable, and safe learning environment to minimize disruptions and honor each student's learning needs.
- Instructional Strategies: Utilize diverse and individualized instructional strategies while integrating the school’s educational and assistive technology.
- Student Connection: Circulate frequently, providing one-on-one connections and effective curriculum implementation.
- Behavioral Management: Follow Assertive Discipline for behavior and seek assistance from the Campus Leadership Council for intense or ambiguous situations.
- Administration: Ensure administrative staff has accurate, up-to-date attendance information.
Preparation and Follow-Up
- Grading: Enter assignments and grades into the database weekly, posting the current week’s grades by Friday.
- Planning: Complete biweekly curriculum maps planning academic skills, executive function support, and assessments.
- Reporting: Complete all paperwork and reports thoroughly and promptly (e.g., IEP progress reports, grade reports, parent summaries).
- Leadership Collaboration: Communicate effectively and frequently with the Campus Leadership Council on student, parent, or school operation issues.
- Compliance: Review and recommend updates to Student Learning Plans; report any suspected child abuse or neglect to the Head of Upper School, Division Directors, or Head of School on the same day received.
Parent Communication & Service
- Responsiveness: Respond to parent contact within 24 hours.
- Touchpoints: Meet or exceed all communication touchpoint requirements and contract requirements.
- Meetings: Prepare for and participate in bi-annual Parent-Teacher Conferences (November and March) and special meetings regarding a student’s achievement.
School Environment Contribution
- Campus Life: Engage in the community by coaching or advising at least one after-school club, sport, or extracurricular activity per year.
- Professional Growth: Attend and contribute positively to mandatory weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings; complete assigned PLC tasks and professional development training at Lawrence and assigned conferences.
- Presence: Support the mission of the school by maintaining a positive, professional presence at school-sponsored activities, including evening and weekend events as needed.
- Collaboration: Treat each student, co-worker, parent, and community member with respect; actively seek collaboration opportunities.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field is required.
- Certification: ODEW Teacher certification required. (Intervention Specialist K-12 preferred; Non-tax certification considered).
- Experience: Previous classroom teaching experience is preferred.
- Expertise: Ability to effectively implement Lawrence School curricula and teaching methods, and collaborate with parents and school leadership.

- Key Skills & Knowledge: * Expert knowledge of ELA curriculum for grades 9-10 (literature, composition, grammar, and research).

- Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to exercise discretion and judgment.
- Must be able to manage stress and student behavior effectively and respond to school emergencies.
Schedule & To Apply
Schedule: Ten-month position following the academic calendar. Workload extends beyond contract hours for lesson planning, parent communication, grading, and curriculum maps.
- Mondays: 8:15 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Tuesday–Friday: 8:15 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
