Full Time Custodian

Position Summary

Christ Church United Methodist is hiring for a dependable and detail-oriented Full-Time Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across the church and onsite preschool facilities. This position supports daily operations, worship services, and program use by ensuring spaces are consistently cleaned, sanitized, and reset for staff, members, children, and guests.

This role averages 38-40 hours per week and requires schedule flexibility. Building operation hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day of the week. Pay is $17 an hour plus benefits and paid time off and sick.

Key Responsibilities

General Cleaning & Facility Care

· Clean and maintain worship areas, classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, kitchens, and common spaces

· Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize floors and surfaces

· Empty trash and recycling

· Refill soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and related supplies

· Maintain orderly and guest-ready spaces

Preschool & Childcare Cleaning

· Clean and disinfect preschool classrooms, restrooms, and shared areas according to childcare health standards

· Sanitize toys, tables, chairs, cots, and play equipment using approved products

· Follow required infection-control and bodily fluid cleanup procedures

· Reset classrooms daily for preschool readiness

· Maintain secure storage and proper handling of cleaning supplies and chemicals

· Support facility cleanliness needed for licensing and inspections

Event & Program Support

· Set up and break down tables, chairs, and furnishings for services, meetings, and special events

· Reset rooms after use to prepare for the next scheduled activity

Light Maintenance & Monitoring

· Perform basic tasks such as changing light bulbs or reporting minor repairs

· Report maintenance issues or safety concerns to the Operations Director

Safety & Security

· Follow all safety procedures for cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment

· Assist with securing the building as needed (locking doors, checking windows, etc.)

· Maintain awareness of the facility to help prevent safety hazards or damage

Other Duties

· Support seasonal or weather-related tasks as needed (e.g., entryway cleaning, light snow or debris removal)

· Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED preferred

· Reliable transportation

· Ability to work independently and follow detailed cleaning procedures

· Physical ability to lift, bend, and perform custodial work

· Strong attention to detail

· Flexible availability to support church and preschool schedules

· Ability to pass a criminal background check

· Service-oriented attitude and respect for a church and childcare environment

Preferred Qualities

· Prior custodial, janitorial, or facilities experience

· Experience cleaning in school, church, or childcare environments

· Trustworthy, dependable, and punctual

· Willingness to learn and follow health, safety, and licensing standards

Work Environment

Active church and preschool campus with frequent movement between rooms and exposure to cleaning products and equipment.
