Job Overview Responsible for the preparation of all Center meals in accordance with preplanned menus, within established budgets, and in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. Acts as lead worker for assistant cooks, cook helpers, and Center work base learning students. Work Model: Onsite Responsibilities Essential Duties & Job Functions:- Prepare and cook the quantity of food required according to the menu and the number of students/staff.
- Assist in instructing cook helpers and student food services trainees in the safe, hygienic method of preparing and serving appetizing, appealing meals.
- Ensure work area is safe, clean, and sanitary at all times.
- Prepare foods as directed for special Center functions and visitors.
- Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas and the cafeteria following each meal.
- Ensure minimum waste through efficient storage, inventory, and food utilization.
- Help cook and serve meals, ensuring that prepared foods are held and served at proper temperatures, and all leftover foods are properly chilled and stored.
- Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices and OSHA standards.
- Cultivate and maintain a climate on Center which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
- Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skills acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
- Promote and cultivate positive customer service.
- Performs all related duties as assigned.
- Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
- Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of Center staff and students.
- Ability to develop rapport and positive working relationships with all departments
- Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.
- Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Adherence to established company safety policies and ability to work in a safe manner, using any required personal protective equipment (PPE) as may be required.
- Compliance with company standard operating procedures and personnel policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Training in food preparation and 1-year experience.
- Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s certificate with 30 days of employment.
- Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract.
- Ability to obtain & maintain a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
- Previous experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen.
- Culinary Arts certification from an accredited institution.
