Sr Developer - Java

Description & Requirements

Maximus is seeking a Sr. Java Developer. Per VES contract requirements, staff working on the VES project must be a US Citizen or US Legal Resident (green card holders)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide design and implementation expertise to a cross-functional software development team.

- Design and develop Java applications from business requirements in collaboration with other team members.

- Support testing and remediate defects.

- May mentor entry and mid-level developers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and enhance Java applications that meet complex business needs.

• Translate business requirements into high-quality, maintainable software solutions using modern Java frameworks and tools.

• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, enterprise-grade components, and integration layers with downstream systems.

• Participate in code reviews, unit/integration testing, and performance tuning to ensure production-ready quality.

• Support defect triaging and remediation efforts through all phases of SDLC including UAT and production support.

• Contribute to architecture discussions, design reviews, and proof-of-concepts.

• Mentor and support entry- and mid-level developers, promoting a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

• Stay current with evolving industry trends and recommend best practices.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

• 5-7 years of hands-on experience in Java/J2EE enterprise application development.

• Strong knowledge of Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and microservices architecture.

• Experience with modern DevOps practices and tools such as Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Jenkins.

• Understanding of relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL) and writing optimized SQL queries.

• Proven ability to work in agile/scrum environments, deliver high-quality code, and meet project timelines.

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant professional experience required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.

Experience integrating with Salesforce, AWS, or other cloud platforms.

• Exposure to legacy system modernization or migration projects.

• Familiarity with Kafka, event-driven design, or other messaging frameworks.

• Experience in test automation and TDD/BDD methodologies

Pay Transparency


Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
