Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position involves providing intensive social work services in serious and complicated cases which require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques. Work is performed and supervised under a Social Work Supervisor.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for providing case management services for children, ages 0-21, who are removed from their parents/caretakers because of abuse, neglect, or dependency.
- Offer services to parents, to include making any needed community referrals, making home visits, taking parents for random drug screens, transporting parents to and from appointments.
- Ensure that all of the childs needs are met. This includes transporting children to be enrolled in school, to medical/mental health appointments, scheduling and supervising visits between children and their parents, arranging for and supervising sibling visitation.
- Works closely with the court system and must attend all court reviews pertaining to the children in their caseload.
- Responsible for preparing court reports for the judge to review and make recommendations concerning permanency.
- Requires a person who is self-motivated, well-organized, flexible, able to multi-task, has effective communication skills, verbal/written, likes to travel (90% of the work for this position is out in the field).
Education & Experience:
A Bachelors degree in a human services field; or Bachelors degree and one year of human services work.

Thorough knowledge of social, economic and health problems; thorough knowledge of social institutions and the methods of the helping process; thorough knowledge of individual and groups behavior; ability to identify social problems and needs to assess the
ability of individuals and families to utilize services in problem solving; ability to plan and organize work and to understand and interpret laws, policies and regulations; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, other professional and technical staff, social agencies and the general public; ability to prepare reports and maintain records.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; ; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.

This position is a part of the Cleveland County Department of Social Services which is considered a Health and Human Services Department. By General Statue 166A-19.3, Departments of Health and Human Services are agencies that are a part of the State Emergency Response Team for occurrences or imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from any natural or man-made accidental, military, paramilitary, terrorism, weather-related, public health, explosion-related, riot-related cause, or technological failure or accident, including, but not limited to, a cyber incident, an explosion, a transportation accident, a radiological accident, or a chemical or other hazardous material incident. In the event that the State Emergency Response Team is activated, this position will be required to participate if deemed necessary.
