Research and product engineer
Perform project-related product engineering work, including new product development from concept to prototyping to production and product improvement. Manage engineering communication to production through prints and document control, testing, and failure analysis. Customer and vendor communication, generate requests for proposals, manage contractors, solicit quotes, and continuous improvement projects. Provide product R&D, including researching new product opportunities and improvements, analyzing materials, processes, and technologies for feasibility and performance, and collaborating with R&D teams to develop prototypes and test new designs. Provide commercialization & market readiness, including working with mfg teams to transition products from prototype to production, creating and optimizing process parameters, developing scalable production processes that ensure cost efficiency and quality, assisting in market testing and consumer validation studies, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations, safety, and quality standards. Provide cross-functional collaboration, including coordinating among engineering, marketing, sales, and supply chain teams, supporting pricing strategies and cost analysis for new product introductions, and providing technical support for marketing materials, product documentation, and training. Provide process improvement & optimization, including identifying and implementing improvements in production methods to enhance efficiency, conducting failure analyses and recommending corrective actions, and monitoring product performance and gathering feedback for continuous improvement.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials or Chemical) and 5 yrs relevant prof exp., incl 2 years of experience developing and/or refining continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic and thermoset products; 3 years of experience with commercialization and transitioning products from R&D to production; 3 years of experience creating product specifications and leading product testing to validate design performance, including documenting critical dimensions and tolerances; 2 years of experience with simulation (FEA) software (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, ABAQUS); and 2 years of experience effectively communicating and presenting information to team members, leaders, management, and customers.
