Job Overview

In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's doctors are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a top-tier department with a world-renowned faculty and staff.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking to fill an Assistant Professor-Research position with a focus on clinical research and instruction.

Essential Functions
  • Provide formalized instruction of specialized didactic sessions tailored for the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship programs, which will include didactic lectures and interactive data analysis workshops via alternating bimonthly REI and MFM module sessions. Subject matter will include Advanced Biostatistics in Clinical Research, Population Health Metrics, and Epidemiological Study Design, with sessions intended to provide UC Medical Center Fellows and UC Medical Students with the quantitative tools necessary to design robust clinical trials and interpret complex population level health data, directly utilizing the faculty's expertise in multilevel modeling and STATA programming.
  • Engage in clinical research preceptorship and mentoring of UC Medical Students and UCMC OBGYN Residents and REI and MFM Fellows by providing one-on-one qualitative research guidance involving the evaluation of data collection and statistical validation. This will involve mentoring trainees on the application of "Social Demography" to clinical outcomes, specifically, how social determinants of health impact fertility, maternal health outcomes, and cancers of the reproductive tract in the Greater Cincinnati area.
  • Provide conference-based and service-based instruction, to include creating and delivering academic content for departmental conferences of various kinds, primarily focusing on the teaching of UCMC Residents and Fellows. This will involve engaging in Journal Club facilitation, Grand Rounds research presentations, and relevant statistical reviews, with quarterly research lectures and bi-monthly "Research Fundamentals" huddles being offered. Instruction will focus on the intersection of Population Sciences and Cancer Prevention and Survivorship and will serve to train residents in identifying high-risk populations for gynecologic cancers and poor outcomes based on demographic risk factors. It will involve analyzing recent clinical literature through a demographic lens and presenting slide-based sessions on the heterogeneity of health outcomes within patient populations.
  • Offer a Summer Research Fundamentals Program for summer UC Medical Students and undergraduate research interns, with subject matter including ethical data management, basics of multivariate analysis, and the use of databases for evaluating health disparities in women's health.
  • Lead and contribute to research endeavors focused on gynecologic oncology and cancer prevention, ensuring scientific rigor and adherence to project timelines.This will include engaging in the development and design of cancer prevention and treatment research studies, adhering to established and IRB approved protocols and to outlined protocol-related experiments. The work will involve utilization of statistical software like STATA and SPSS for data cleaning, analysis, and interpretation, as well as R for data analysis and visualization in order to conduct qualitative research focused on gynecologic oncology and cancer prevention.
  • Lead clinical trial design and management efforts for the PI's Global Cancer Control Program, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards while also assisting in crafting grant proposals to secure funding for research initiatives.
  • Engage in grant writing and otherwise seek external funding, and provide support in regulatory affairs related to grant work, including but not limited to IRB submissions and compliance documentation.
  • Integrate data obtained from programmatic research into regulatory reports or other dissemination output.
Minimum Requirements

All of the following are required prior to effective date of appointment:
  • PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience which must have included all of the following: research project design, implementation, and analysis within the field of Epidemiology, Public Health, or Health Behavior, and analyzing research-related data using SAS, STATA, or R software.
