Day in the Life: Avon Lake

Step onto the floor as a Multi-Spindle Acme Screw Machine Setup Technician and set the pace for production. You’ll configure, tune, and run Acme screw machines to turn out precise components, keeping safety, quality, and uptime front and center.

What You’ll Do

• Review blueprints and job orders to understand dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions.
• Install and secure collets, bushings, and stock pushers, then load bar stock into the feed mechanism.
• Fit and fine-tune cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tooling movement.
• Mount tools in holders and set appropriate cutting speeds and feed rates.
• Cycle the machine and make adjustments to optimize performance and achieve part accuracy.
• Start up and monitor operations; complete a first-piece inspection to verify specifications.
• Submit conforming first-piece (first article) parts to Quality for approval.
• Carry out interval-based part checks and maintain required documentation.
• Run production using established 2-pan system procedures.
• Replace or sharpen worn tools with a bench grinder to maintain cutting performance.
• Keep your cell clean, organized, and safe at all times.
• Pitch in with additional duties as assigned to support the team.

What You’ll Bring

• Confidence reading technical drawings and manufacturing documentation.
