A job offer is contingent on acceptance into an Ohio University graduate program. This position includes a 1-year contract with possibility of a second year dependent on your graduate program restrictions and needs of the department.

Well-Being will provide a stipend, however, a tuition waiver is dependent on approval from your academic department and is not guaranteed.

Graduate Assistants will be expected to report for onboarding, training and semester preparation in August. The final date is to be determined.

The Aquatic Center Graduate Assistant will assist with daily functions of the Aquatic Center with a strong focus on human resources, operations and event management. This position will also work closely with the Assistant Director of the Aquatic Center on developing and implementing student trainings, human resources, reservations and event management. This position works closely with Well-Being and Recreation professionals and graduate assistants to develop a fully integrated recreation program and focuses on the inclusion and well-being of OHIO students and the campus community.

Our student staff are certified through the American Red Cross and National Recreation and Parks Association. Student staff are trained to operate the facility, programs and events housed within the Aquatic Center and support other functions of Wellbeing and Recreation and the Division of Student Affairs.

  • Assist in the oversight of Aquatic Center operations including but not limited to: Rentals and Events, Personnel, Risk management and Maintenance.
  • Working with facility director, oversee the Aquatic Human Resources student work team. Processing new hire information, on-boarding students and providing training and in-services.
  • Assist facility director with facility Rental & Event planning and implementation, staffing and equipment management for the event.
  • Event staff recruitment and training for each event, including but not limited to; setup, timing system operations, clean up, storage, evaluation and potential billing adjustments.
  • Working with facility director, provide oversight for Operational Supervisors and reviewing task assignments and follow up reporting
  • Develop leadership skills among student staffing and assist in the development and


implementation of new policies and procedures within Wellbeing and Recreation Facilities.

  • Oversee communications and Operational Supervisor regular meetings and information distribution.
  • Serve as a first responder during facility emergencies.
  • Positively represent Aquatic Center at university, department and division events. Participation in division work teams encouraged
  • Serve as a vital contributor to the Well-Being & Recreation staff, attending all department and division meetings and trainings.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Engages with students and contributes to the growth and development of various aspects of the Ohio University experience, including student engagement, student leadership, student conduct, well-being and recreation, academic success, and campus life. Responsibilities may include supporting student government, developing student fitness and recreation programs, coordinating student events, providing student academic support, and providing administrative support to departments across the University.

Provides specialized assistance in academic or administrative tasks, leveraging advanced knowledge in a particular subject area. Supports faculty, researchers, or departments in a variety of ways.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise undergraduate students.

Fiscal Responsibilities

May assist in managing small budgets for research projects or departmental activities.

Problem Solving

Handles complex, field-specific problems that require critical thinking and independent analysis. May require guidance for highly specialized or unfamiliar tasks, but able to handle day-to-day challenges independently.

Independence of Action

Works independently on assigned tasks but may consult with faculty or staff for major decisions.

Communication and Collaboration

Regular communication with faculty, supervisors, and peers. Collaborates with academic and administrative peers, faculty, and staff and participates in meetings or discussions to further research or projects. May interact with students, colleagues, or clients in academic settings.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Must be a graduate student currently enrolled in an Ohio University academic program. Must have strong research, writing, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Lifeguard Training Instructor Certification
  • Current Water Safety Instructor Certifications
  • Experience with event management and/or Colorado Timing System experience
  • Previous Experience in competitive swimming, learn to swim programs, aquatics operations, maintenance and/or recreational programming


Working Condition/Physical Demands

This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.

Department CR Executive Account Pay Rate

$13,500 Annual Stipend
