Permit Clerk
Position: *Permit Clerk * Department: Southeast Ohio Building Department
Hours: * M-Th 7:00am to 4:15pm, F 7:00am -- 12:00pm * Salary: $14.00*Benefits: * OPERS retirement, health/dental/life insurance, paid sick, vacation, and holidays
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities *(Includes the following, but not limited to.)
- Answering and directing calls, checking messages, and scheduling requested inspections.
- Forward building code or plan approval questions to the Office Administrator, Building Official or Plans Examiner.
- Ability to work with customers at the counter and on the phone.
- Take in plan approval applications.
- Process and issue plan approvals (permits).
- Process plans from plan review for notification of fees and/or issuance.
- Audit files for finalization of projects.
- Filing and processing documents.
- Cross-train with staff to learn departmental protocol.
- Coordination of special projects as assigned by CBO.
Qualification/Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Professional business appearance.
- Excellent phone etiquette with professional verbal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively via email and electronic media.
- Customer service is primary.
- Punctual.
- Knowledge of MS office, Word and Excel.
- Ability to learn Building Department software.
- Able to multi task and work with minimal supervision.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Desired Qualifications
- Construction experience, although not required, is advantageous.
- Ability to read or learn how to read construction documents.
- Experience in Customer Service.
* Work Environment *

The work is performed primarily in an office setting, however, you may be asked, on occasion to visit a construction site in the field with supervision.
