Position Title: Full-Time Police Officer

The City of Mentor is hiring for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. Candidates are required to complete the National Testing Network Law Enforcement Frontline National Exam to be considered for the eligibility list. Test scores will be accepted from exams taken between April 14, 2024 and April 14, 2025. Applications will be accepted starting on Monday, March 17, 2025. Deadline for submission is Monday, April 14, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.

Salary Information: $77,848.68 to $98,283.12 (eff. 3/31/2025)

Age : Must be 20 years old to apply; must be 21 years old at time of original appointment and before 36th birthday, per city ordinance.

Citizenship Required : Must be U.S. citizen at time of appointment.

Valid OHIO Driver's License : Required

Prior Experience : Not required; No lateral transfers - must take test to rank/hire

Necessary Certifications : Police Academy/State of Ohio OPOTA Certification will be required after appointment, if not already obtained. **If appointed, the City of Mentor pays for Police Academy attendance.

Additional Requirements : Written exam average passing grade of 70% is required on the test to be considered for the eligibility list. All sections will be averaged together for final weighted grade.

Hiring Process : Must participate to Acceptable Level: NTN written exam, physical agility test, background investigation, polygraph examination, medical examination, psychological test, drug screening and oral interview.

Extra Credit Points : See the City of Mentor's website for additional information on extra credit points for OPOTA Certification, Military Service, and Education. Points to be added to passing Written Exam score with proper proof.
