Team Lead - P&C Underwriting

Position Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced P&C Underwriter Team Lead to join our Commercial Property & Casualty department. This role is pivotal in driving the strategic direction of our underwriting team, managing a robust book of business, and leading a team of underwriters to achieve profitable growth and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities:- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring the team meets and exceeds performance goals.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to underwriters, ensuring underwriting integrity and adherence to company policies and guidelines.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, training, and development sessions to enhance team capabilities.
- Manage a renewal book of approximately $7M-$8M and generate new business of approximately $1.5M annually, with a focus on profitable growth.
- Evaluate new and renewal business submissions, making sound underwriting decisions within delegated authority for both admitted and surplus lines products.
- Analyze market trends and conditions to inform underwriting strategies and recommend product adjustments as needed.
- Develop and maintain strong business relationships with key wholesalers, agents, and brokers to drive new business opportunities and retention.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for underwriting guidance and support, providing expertise to producers and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other departments, including marketing, claims, and operations, to develop and implement effective rate and pricing strategies.
- Lead cross-functional projects to enhance underwriting processes, product offerings, and customer experience.
- Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities within existing and new business sources, contributing to the company’s strategic initiatives.
- Ensure underwriting practices comply with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on underwriting decisions, market conditions, and portfolio performance for senior management review.
- Stay current with industry trends, competitive intelligence, and emerging risks to continuously improve underwriting effectiveness and innovation.
- Pursue relevant professional designations and continuing education to enhance personal and team expertise.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of five years of commercial P&C underwriting experience, with a strong focus on commercial property, general liability, and BOP/CPP.
- Proven leadership experience in managing and developing a team of underwriters.
- Achievement of professional designations such as CPCU, CIC, or equivalent, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a demonstrated ability to drive profitable underwriting results.
