Job Description
This role focuses on testing, validating, and servicing HVAC and refrigeration systems to ensure all manufactured products meet design standards and customer expectations. You will apply your technical expertise in testing techniques, electrical and mechanical systems, and documentation to execute comprehensive product qualification. The position involves setting up and operating test equipment, interpreting engineering documentation, and recording accurate test results. You will also support field activities, including equipment start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair services for customers in both domestic and international locations.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of testing techniques, procedures, materials, and documentation, including standard operating procedures and work instructions, to perform accurate and repeatable tests.
- Interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, P&ID diagrams, and quality documentation with precision to ensure tests align with design intent and customer requirements.
- Set up and operate testing equipment to simulate operating environments that meet customer specifications and engineering requirements.
- Plan and estimate the time, resources, and materials required for testing tasks to ensure efficient execution and on-time completion.
- Lay out and position test setups, including mechanical piping, ductwork, electrical power, controls, and instrumentation, to support a variety of test configurations.
- Calculate heating and cooling loads for test scenarios to validate system performance under different operating conditions.
- Perform electrical wiring for various test functions, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant connections.
- Review shop orders, test plans, and related documentation to execute tests according to defined procedures and quality standards.
- Connect and verify the calibration of data recording instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test data collection.
- Record test results daily with a high level of accuracy, clarity, and attention to detail.
- Maintain control over materials, tools, and job activities throughout the testing process to ensure traceability and organization.
- Understand and complete the Manufacturing Quality Plan in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on company equipment used for testing and support activities.
- Keep the test area, tools, and equipment organized, clean, and in good working condition to promote safety and efficiency.
- Complete test procedures and reports efficiently, consistently meeting or exceeding time and quality expectations.
- Uphold company policies and procedures at all times while performing testing and service activities.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, customers, and vendors to resolve issues and improve product performance.
- Execute product testing and validation to confirm performance aligns with engineering specifications and quality benchmarks.
- Document test procedures and results thoroughly, identifying and addressing any issues or nonconformances that arise during testing.
- Provide field support, including domestic and international travel, to perform on-site training of personnel, equipment start-up and commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair services.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on HVAC and refrigeration experience, including testing and service of mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting HVAC, refrigeration, and related electrical and mechanical issues.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and P&ID diagrams accurately.
- Experience with electrical work related to testing functions, including safe wiring practices.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, piping, ductwork, and associated components.
- Ability to calculate heating and cooling loads for various test scenarios.
- Familiarity with testing techniques, procedures, and documentation, including SOPs and work instructions.
- Experience with data recording instruments and verification of their calibration.
- Competence in recording detailed, accurate test results and completing test reports.
- HVAC knowledge, including refrigeration systems and EPA Universal certification.
- Ability to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on testing and related equipment.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain control over materials, tools, and job activities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams, customers, and vendors.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to provide field support, training, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair services.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in facilities maintenance or service work related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Experience working with mechanical piping and ductwork in a test or service environment.
- Exposure to blueprint reading and interpretation of complex technical documentation.
- Familiarity with manufacturing quality plans or similar quality documentation processes.
- Comfort working in both test lab and field environments, including customer sites.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize testing and service activities effectively.

Work Environment
This role is based at a facility in Batavia, OH, where you will work primarily in a test environment that includes HVAC and refrigeration equipment, mechanical piping, ductwork, electrical power systems, controls, and instrumentation. You will regularly set up and operate specialized testing equipment and data recording instruments, working with engineering documentation and quality plans. The position involves both shop-floor and test-lab activities, requiring safe practices around electrical and mechanical systems. You will also travel to customer sites, both domestically and internationally, to support equipment start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairs, and on-site training. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Batavia, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
