About the Role

Shark is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer II to join our R&D team and help develop the next generation of innovative consumer products. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, enjoys building products from the ground up, and approaches new technical challenges with curiosity, optimism, and grit.

What you'll do

  • Own products from early concept through production — design, prototype, test, iterate, ship
  • Design electromechanical systems that integrate motors, sensors, actuators, PCBs, and controls
  • Build hands-on prototypes using in-house lab tools, rapid prototyping, and supplier support
  • Dig into root-cause analysis and troubleshoot mechanical and system-level issues directly
  • Translate product requirements into CAD models, drawings, tolerances, and specs
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with EE, ID, NPD, and testing teams from day one
  • Run design validation, reliability testing, and DFM/DFA reviews

What you bring

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field, plus 1–3 years in product development or R&D
  • Real hands-on prototyping experience — you've built and tested physical hardware
  • Solid grasp of electromechanical systems (motors, gearing, mechanisms, basic electronics)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD — SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar
  • Experience taking a product from concept to production
  • Comfort with fast-moving, iterative environments where requirements evolve
  • Energy and creativity when facing problems no one has solved before

Nice to have

  • Consumer products, appliances, or high-volume manufacturing experience
  • Rapid prototyping methods — 3D printing, machining, soft tooling
  • FEA / CFD simulation tools

What We Value

  • Builders and doers who love getting their hands dirty
  • Engineers who see ambiguity as opportunity
  • Strong collaborators with a “let’s figure it out” mindset
  • Passion for creating innovative, user-focused products
