Job Overview
The Development Officer serves as the Raiser's Edge database expert, managing gift processing, donor acknowledgements, and data analysis while coordinating fundraising appeals and events. This position cultivates donor relationships, ensures accurate constituent records, and serves as liaison between Development and Finance departments. This role requires a positive, dedicated, and detail-oriented professional who can balance database management with donor-facing responsibilities to advance Preterm's mission of providing safe, respectful, and accessible reproductive healthcare.

.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Development Operations: 45%

  • As a power user in Raiser’s Edge, provide instruction and support to the Development team, manage gift processing, donation acknowledgements, and in-depth analysis of giving patterns and donor retention
  • Maintain clean and organized data, and ensure that the database effectively and accurately captures constituent and donor information
  • Manage and execute donor relations including thank you letters or emails, phone calls, and donor visits
  • Participate in ongoing efforts to increase efficiencies and improve workflows across the department
  • Assist the Development Director in reporting and tracking year-to-date and year-over-year philanthropic revenue
  • Serve as a liaison to the finance office – providing reports, completing monthly reconciliation, and tracking grant payments and spending

Donor Relations & Events: 45%

  • Coordinate print and digital appeals with Development Director – drafting, proofreading & editing; preparing mailing lists; coordinating with printer; scheduling social media; etc.
  • Lead fundraising event operations (fundraisers, friendraisers; and annual crowdfunding campaign) in tandem with the Development Director
  • Assist Grants Administrator with grant writing and reporting as needed
  • Collaborate with Development Director on donor stewardship and moves management strategies

Communications: 10%

  • Represent Preterm at fundraisers/tabling events and, occasionally, other community outreach events
  • Work with Grants Administrator and Communications and Outreach Associate to maintain email lists, coordinate email content, and proof/edit other digital communications

Essential Qualifications: (Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • Two or more years of experience in a nonprofit fundraising role
  • Proficiency with donor databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred) and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience writing, editing, and designing digital and print fundraising/marketing materials
  • Must be able to work in an autonomous environment, be self-directed, and naturally curious
  • Professional demeanor, tact, diplomacy, discretion, good judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with colleagues, donors, vendors, and the public
  • Ability to effectively manage and track multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving and active listening skills
  • Any successful candidate will contribute to a positive and inclusive atmosphere

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Familiarity with website management platforms, Canva, and Constant Contact

Working Conditions

  • This position is performed in an office setting although off-site meetings in various settings occur
  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices, which includes the need for general safe workplace practices with office equipment and computers, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations
  • The schedule is generally normal business hours although the need to perform work or attend meetings and events before or after normal workings hours and on weekends may occasionally occur
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate
  • Some travel by personal automobile is required
  • Lift light objects (less than 20 pounds) and carry them short distances (20 feet or less)
