About Climate Jobs Oregon:
Climate Jobs Oregon (CJOR) is a non-profit coalition of labor organizations advocating for a pro-worker, pro-climate agenda in Oregon. A state affiliate of the Climate Jobs National Resource Center (CJNRC), Climate Jobs Oregon is united around a shared goal of combating climate change while reversing income, racial, and economic inequality, and elevating underrepresented and rural communities. Our mission is to advocate for a clean energy economy at the scale climate science demands, create good union jobs, and support more equitable communities. The coalition represents hundreds of thousands of workers in Oregon who are the best trained and skilled to build Oregon’s new clean-energy economy from the ground up. This important work, combined with labor standards—such as prevailing wage and project labor agreements, with union apprentice-trained workers—provides a pathway to a strong middle class in Oregon. By focusing on the construction and manufacturing of clean energy technologies as a way to combat the climate crisis, Climate Jobs Oregon offers a compelling new approach to creating an equitable and clean economy. Building a clean energy economy is an opportunity for the labor movement to lead in climate by creating high-quality, family-sustaining jobs that spur economic development while reducing carbon emissions.
Overview of Job Responsibilities:
Under the direction and guidance of the CJOR Board of Directors, the Climate Jobs Oregon Executive Director coordinates the coalition’s organizational structure, development and implementation of campaigns, and support for communications work. Description of Duties:
- Lead organizational development, including building out and formalizing CJOR.
- Work with the Board of Directors, staff, members, and allies to develop comprehensive state/local legislative and other campaigns that prioritize labor and equity standards to ensure that efforts to decarbonize the economy take labor and job quality standards seriously.

- Develop strong knowledge of current employment and industry trends in Oregon and opportunities for Climate Jobs participation by consulting with unions and employer partners, conducting independent research when necessary.
- Coordinate campaigns to win legislative and policy changes to address the climate crisis, raise labor standards, and create good union jobs in Oregon.
- Support federal efforts on federal climate jobs initiatives.
- Support the organization’s external-facing communications, including online communications and traditional media.
- Supervise and support other CJOR staff and contractors.
- Work with other CJOR staff and members on aspects of organizational development, fundraising, organizational campaigns, special projects, trainings, and meetings.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish the annual budget and to maintain sound financial procedures, reporting, and performance.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with leading employers, workforce entities, and labor unions across multiple industries throughout Oregon.
- Engage and collaborate with CJNRC, the Climate Jobs Institute (CJI) at Cornell University, and other national partners as needed and as campaigns warrant.
- Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and guidelines governing non-profit organizations and lobbying.
- Perform all other duties incidental to the duties of an Executive Director and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the CJOR Board of Directors.
