PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Columbus, OH 43210 – Experience the energy of a thriving college town with renowned healthcare institutions, beautiful parks, and diverse cultural attractions.
• Job Type: Locum tenens (travel nursing contract)
• Unit: 18 East and West – Oncology, Orthopedic, and Sarcoma Transfusion Services
• Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (Days: 07:30–19:30; Nights: 19:00–07:30); 3 shifts per week
• Hours per Week: 36
• Contract Length: 13–16 weeks (extension options available through 1/26/2026)
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1940–$1990
• Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, and occasional Pediatrics
• Unit Size: 36 beds (including 24+ PCU beds)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent high-acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience
• Oncology nursing experience preferred
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Ohio state or compact RN license
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system
• Ability to float to units of equal or lower acuity as needed
• Two professional references (one from a manager, director, or formal leader)
• Flu vaccination required (medical exemptions considered)

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to oncology and orthopedic patients in a high-acuity PCU environment
• Manage patient ratios of 1:3 (PCU) and 1:4-5 (Med Surg Telemetry)
• Interpret cardiac dysrhythmias and arterial blood gases (ABGs); respond to rapid response calls
• Administer blood products, chemotherapy (preferred), and cardiac drips
• Perform central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and IV starts
• Care for patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, and surgical drains
• Utilize advanced clinical equipment: GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, PCA pumps
• Implement infection prevention and fall prevention protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
• Participate in orientation and ongoing clinical training to maintain high-quality patient care standards
