Job Title:POCT Coordinator
Department:University Hospital | Lab Compliance and Point of Care Testing Scope of Position The Point-of-Care Coordinator (POCC) will be responsible for operational aspects and oversight of Point of Care Testing across The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, The James Cancer Center, Ambulatory Network, The Ohio State University, and other community clinics. The POCC provides technical, regulatory and scientific oversight for waived, moderate and high complexity point of care testing. The POCC is responsible for the education, training and competency of non-laboratory personnel (PCAs nursing, radiologist, perfusionist, anesthesiologist), compliance and other quality assurance activities for Point of Care Testing. Examples of areas where alternate site testing occurs: Nursing units, OR, Family Health, Outpatient Care Locations, Dermatology, etc. Position Summary The POCC is responsible for all technical and regulatory aspects of point-of-care testing for clinical labs including, but not limited to: establishing training and competency of testing personnel in the proper usage of instruments, quality control documentation, maintenance and troubleshooting. The POCC compiles and analyzes quality control results, comparison results, and instrument verification; creates and controls procedures, forms and quick guides; monitors and tracks maintenance and temperature logs; monitors quality indicators and proficiency testing surveys; and prepares reports for the laboratory medical director and division director. The POCC works with the units to document and implement corrective action plans. This position is required to evaluate current, repaired or new instrumentation and reagents. This position is also responsible to ensure the POCT meets all CLIA, TJC, and CAP regulations; proficiency testing processing, data entry of results, documentation and retention of records for regulatory compliance may be required. Works independently with guidance in only complex situations from the manager, director and medical director. Minimum Qualifications For Hire : A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science. MLT-T/MT/MLS certification is required. A minimum of 2 years relevant clinical laboratory experience is required, 3 years preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Ongoing: Maintains certification status. Meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
