SUMMARY
Responsible for a wide range of legal matters, compliance with Title IX and ADA coordination, remediation, education and will assist the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as the College’s Director of Institutional Access
- Serves as the College’s Title IX & ADA Coordinator and directs all related College-wide functions
- Strategically directs, designs, implements, and monitors College-wide Institutional Access & Title IX and ADA Compliance functions
- Oversees the complaint, investigation and resolution process for all complaints related to prohibited conduct under the College’s policy prohibiting discrimination, harassment, and retaliation on the basis of a protected class
- Conducts intake of complaints in collaboration with the College’s Investigator
- Provides guidance, direction and oversight of the investigations performed by the College’s Investigator
- Investigates allegations connected to complaints in emergency situations or in the absence of the College’s Investigator
- Provides initial assessments of claims to determine if they are implicated by the College’s policy prohibiting discrimination, harassment and retaliation on the basis of a protected class
- Determines if a claim is appropriate for transfer to another College department to investigate and remedy and thereafter transfers the claim when appropriate
- Evaluates investigative summaries provided by the College’s Investigator to determine if the allegations meet the policy threshold for elevation to a Decision Maker for determination of the weight of the evidence and proposed sanctions where appropriate evidence and proposed sanctions where appropriate
- Oversees the entire complaint resolution process from intake to probable cause determination, decision maker panel and appeal
- Provides all appropriate trainings and forms for all Decision Makers, Appeals Officers and related parties
- Provides ongoing training, consulting, technical assistance, and information services regarding Institutional Access requirements, grievance issues, and compliance programs
- Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with all campus constituencies to promote the value and process of conflict resolution
- Works collaboratively with other campus personnel with conflict resolution interests and responsibilities
- Identify systemic concerns about college policies, procedures, and programs, and make recommendations for review of policies or procedures to appropriate administrative offices
- In conjunction with necessary parties/functions, conducts annual Title IX and accessibility audits at each college location
- Maintain and update Section 3354: 1-60-02 Discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, Title IX, and retaliation complaint procedure to maintain compliance with any new regulations related to Title IX or other local, state, or federal regulations which impact the Procedure
- Executes and monitors Compliance with the College’s Procedure
- Manages diverse projects from General Counsel as assigned
- Represents the Office of Legal Services and the College in the absence of General Counsel and/or Deputy General Counsel
- Conducts training on subjects of legal importance to the College and its employees (i.e., Ethics, accessibility, Title IX, discrimination, etc.)
- Supervises support personnel in conjunction with the Vice President & General Counsel, as requested
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
- J.D. with outstanding academic performance
- Significant related experience may substitute for education
- Minimum five years of strong demonstrated legal experience with a law firm or in-house legal department
- Demonstrated track record of negotiating and drafting commercial contracts and working collaboratively with a legal department
- Member of the Ohio bar

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
- Demonstrated experience as legal counsel to an institution of higher education
- Demonstrated experience with Higher Education laws, the Ohio Sunshine Laws and/or the Ohio Public Records Act
- Demonstrated competency in Title IX and ADA compliance matters both administrative and athletic

- Possess knowledge of contract authoring and management software

Target Starting Salary Range
$100,000 to $115,000. The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range, but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
