Under the direct supervision of the Department Chair, Construction Management and heavy Trades the Driver Training Manager is responsible for managing the Commercial Driver’s License Training Enterprises at both Hocking College and Washington County Career and Technical Center which includes the management, administration, and coordination of all driver-related training activities. The position facilitates driver training programs to train and educate drivers about proper vehicle inspection, safe vehicle operation, and defensive driving techniques. The training manager will serve a leadership role in the development and implementation of curriculum ensuring training, instructors, and equipment are in accordance with the Ohio Department of Public Safety as outlined by the Ohio Administrative Code 4501-7, the Department of Transportation, and all other federal regulations and guidelines. The training manager provides instructional services, maintains a safe working area and conditions, and prepares and assists students in earning their CDL with appropriate endorsements. Training includes CDL permit test prep., CDL instruction including classroom and behind-the-wheel training, CDL industry topics and career placement, and practicum and seminar.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages all aspects of the Commercial Driver’s License Training Enterprise including student enrollment management and recruitment.
Manages additional training staff and enterprise locations (Nelsonville, Marietta).
• Assists with the development of course outcomes and curriculum that are consistent with the Ohio Department of Public Safety and Hocking College policy.
Administers course outcomes and expectations to students per institution policies of both Hocking College and Washington County Career and Technical Center.
Organizes and manages instructional activities to include new driver training and instructor training resulting in certification and licensure.
• Conducts and facilitates in-cab and classroom training in compliance with Ohio Department of Public Safety policy for CDL training.
• Organizes testing for new CDL drivers to include Hocking College as a CDL testing site.
• Audits in-cab training and prepares reports regarding progress of driver training.
• Uses appropriate learner-centered instructional methods.
• Provides evaluation methods appropriate to stated outcomes.
Maintains accurate records in compliance with the Ohio Department of Public Safety and Hocking College.
• Selects or develops, where necessary, teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works for classroom training to ensure that all training is up-to-date, informative and in compliance with Ohio Department of Public Safety standards.
Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
Valid Commercial Driver’s License fully endorsed
Ohio Department of Public Safety Instructor Training License
Ohio Department of Public Safety Training Manager License preferred
Must have completed or be willing to complete an Ohio Department of Public Safety-approved 40 hour training manager course
Must have 3 years of CDL training experience
Must have held a CDL license for at least five years and eligible for motor vehicle insurance coverage through Hocking College
Experience using MS Office including Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
