About Montessori Works
Montessori Works is a Delaware-based nonprofit organization championing the expansion of public access to high-quality, child-centered Montessori education. We are currently transitioning from a volunteer-led advisory group to an organization with a dedicated professional staff to build operational capacity. We are seeking a devoted founding leader to establish our infrastructure, launch new school initiatives, and expand our statewide impact.
Position Summary
The Executive Director is the founding leader responsible for building the organizational infrastructure and launching new schools for Montessori Works. This individual transitions the organization from a volunteer-led group to an organization with a dedicated professional staff to build operational capacity that expands public Montessori access throughout Delaware. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for day-to-day operations and long-term strategic growth.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Execute the strategic plan, convert three-year goals into actionable work plans, and manage core programs aligned with expanding Montessori education.
- Financial Management: Oversee fiscal stability, direct the annual budget, review monthly financial reports with the Treasurer, and ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- School Incubation: Formalize a repeatable incubation model, navigate state education and licensing agencies, and coordinate technical assistance for founding school boards.
- Fundraising & Revenue: Secure foundation, government, and individual gifts; write and track grant requests; and develop fee-for-service models for fiscal sustainability.
- Board Governance: Partner closely with the Board of Directors, provide transparent data for strategic decisions, and assist in recruiting new board members.
- Advocacy & Communication: Serve as the public face of the organization through legislative advocacy and donor events, manage the organization's website & social media presence, and streamline internal and external communications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mission Alignment: Deep respect for Montessori philosophy and child-centered educational practices.
- Senior Leadership: Leadership experience in a nonprofit, education, or public-sector organization.
- Organizational Growth: Demonstrated success in building organizational infrastructure, including staffing and operational systems.
- Expertise: Strong understanding of public education systems, charter school development, or school incubation.
- Fundraising: Proven track record in fundraising, including securing institutional grants and cultivating donor relationships.
- Fiscal Stewardship: Experience managing organizational budgets of $500,000+ and performing multi-year growth planning.
